I like David Broder's summation of the debate....and it is, I think, telling that Broder is hardly a right wing idealogue.
I think he is saying what I said, Obama was way way too deferential. Obma needs to stop being deferential and kick away McCain's zimmerframe and to hell with it. Subliminally people will see his deference as weak rather than polite and politics is more about perception than substance. Look at Bush, he was too chicken to fight in Vietnam himself but seen as strong because he was prepared to send other young men to die in an unnecessary war. Obama needs to play the game. If he is perceived in being weak because he is overly politie with an ageing veteran, he will certainly be perceived as being weak in international negotiations. Sadly, most people don't think, they rely on intuition and that intuition is fed through primitive signals, not intellectual thought.
