OK beautiful people.  The uni didn't hire me, so I am thinking of going to a retreat center for a month or two before moving on with my life.  Anyone know of a good one?  Omega in New York is closed for the winter.... I don't wanna go someplace cold or expensive.  I would prefer somewhere that I could get free room and board and volunteer to work for them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
sunshine

What is a retreat centre, is it like a cult?

Yeah, nice.  Look I am serious here.  I spent a year in Asia that nearly destroyed me.  I need some yoga, movement, meditation, walks in nature, that kind of thing.  If you don't want to take this seriously, feel free to move along.  Your jokes are not welcome.

Dang... I thought I put this in off topics.  shoot.  mah bad.  anyway.  It is still serious.

Sunny, are there any volunteer organizations that offer such a thing?  Someplace that would offer some kind of work for room and board, where you could get the other as well?

I believe that was my point.  ahem.

So I am finding a couple of places on the internet... anybody KNOW of one.  Better if it comes from folks you know... word of mouth and all that.

A nice place.  Not sure of their policy on trade or work for stay, but you can check em out.

A kibbutz in Israel is all I can think of. You may have to pick fruit of trees or work in the kitchen or whatever.

Kripalu in Massachussets ( the Birkshires ) has all kinds of retreats and programs. They do offer work programs. Check out their websit, sunshine.

I got nothin as far as locations---though the kibbutz sprung to my mind too!  The left coast is full of hippies, isn't it?  And buddhist temples?  There must be SOMEWHERE.

Oh!  How about Cj's place?  He gives good massages, I hear!

There's a book called A Place for God that's a guide to retreat centers. It might be a handy resource.
