Why hire someone else (in this case a speech writer) for something that I am perfectly capable of doing for myself? I have quite a good grasp of my native language in both it's spoken and written forms; took debate courses throughout jr high, highschool, and college; and took public speaking courses at both the highschool and college levels. Hmm - passed all of them with good grades and good grasp of the subject matter, as well. If I can't Remember a speech I write for myself long enough to deliver it without the help of a teleprompter, I was irresponcible in not giving myself sufficient time to go over my own notes to prepare. Irresponcibility is not a quality that I find particularly suited to the office in question, whether it be on such a "minor" scale or regarding something significantly more prone to causing alarm. It would be fiscally irresponcible to hire someone for a campaign staff to handle something that I should, by all rights, be handling for myself at no further cost.
As to how I would answer the questions asked during a debate - with Honesty, something that's long been lacking from a politician's (Any politician's) arsenal. Would it make me particularly Popular? With some, yes, simply because my views and their's would be similar enough to ring internal bells. With others just the opposite, for the rather obvious reason that my views were to extremely removed from their own. If I can't hold my own in a debate with the Truth and Facts, without having to "practice" my opinions with someone else, I have no business placing myself into a position to be debated. As an example, these fori are no more than Written debates - without the opportunity to "consult" with others regarding our responces. Sometimes those responces are popular and agreed with (either with rational thought or unthinking loyalty) sometimes they aren't. Either way, if the opinions offered are not what a person really Thinks/Believes/Feels when writing a responce to the thread in question, why are they commenting at all? To be an empty yea-sayer for their personal friends, or perhaps to argue with their personally chosen whipping post? To simply be seen as having Some sort of opinion - preferably a popular one? Perhaps only to enflame and incite, by specifically 'holding' an Unpopular opinion?
Ad campaigns - only authorized if containing Only the truth both about myself and my views. Personal attacks, whether against my opponent directly or someone in their staff or family absolutely not allowed. And if any ads were taken out by PACs who were against my opponent that we known to not follow the standards set - public condemnation of the people responcible for the ad combined with a public appology to my oppnent for their juvenile attempts at dirty tactics. The responce to ads that are falsehoods - truely falsehoods, as opposed to differences of stance and/or opinion? I'd ignore it unless and until it was questioned - at which point I would present the Facts, with evidence to Support those Facts. It's this little thing called Maturity combined with Confidence - and Avoiding campaign negativity (also known as mudslinging like an illmannered brat on a playground.)
Only campaign promise that would be made - to fight tooth and toenail for a return to True Constitutional law passage, revocation of All laws currently on the books that are unconstitutional (starting with claptrap like the Patriot Act) and keeping the US's nose Short and In It's Own Business At Home Where It Belongs. Not a promise to suceed - a promise to Fight for those things from a position with the authority to actually have a chance of accomplishing the goals set forth.
Campaign slogan - "You want Change? Why not try someone who's Not a career politician, and hasn't forgotten what it's like to live at the other end of the spectrum?"
All of this, of course, being a bit moot - as I would no doubt get assassinated long before the election ever occured, assuming I could find a party that would be willing to back me rather than considering me a proverbial red herring. It would also need to assume that I somehow actually Wanted the type of power that folks running for political office Actively Desire (I don't) or considered Anyone FIT to run for office who actually WANTS the office. I have long been of the opinion that those who Most Desire to hold power over others are also most frequently those who are Least Suited to holding that very same power. Why else would I eschew the power games that so many into BDSM thrive upon, and look only for the Physical aspects of it?
