Precisely.  The One's actions are without standing and without merit.  Even a Harvard Law graduate should have that much familiarity with actual law.

Political ads are vicious, as are politicians, and as are their surrogates.  The One has chosen poorly if he is unable to endure the order of things.

The standard of libel for public figures has been a statement that is knowingly false or with actual malice (also stated as a reckless disregard for the truth). This has been the standard since New York Times Co v Sullivan in 1964 (376 US 254). None of the attacks on The One come anywhere near that standard. The One has no legal basis for any action against any ad aired thus far.

That's a fine bit of information.

Now if you could come up with something that credibly proves he tried to do so I would be much more impressed.

The only things I've seen have been a very vague local television report that was long on sensationalism and short on documentation.

Oh, and of course the blog piece by "Hank", who apparently has no last name.  Now I'm sure No Last Name Hank is a wonderful fellow, and far be it from me to question his journalistic integrity, but there was a notable lack of facts in his story.  His references are other conservative blogs that cite yet more conservative bloggers.

"Ads exposing Obama's gun stance."
And just what is the Messiah's "stance" on guns?
Anyone know?
The Dems are going to wish that they ran Hillary.

Nah Popeye....on Nov 4th The One becomes The President Elect....this is the order of things....

Maybe you should point this out to our little Johnny too.

He's spent most of the campaign pouting and sulking because he didn't like that the mean 'ole media people were actually criticizing him and his  choice of running mates.

Or did you forget his surly refusal to answer simple questions during his Time Magazine interview and cancelling his Larry King interview because a CNN reporter dared to question his campaign spokesman's scripted talking points?

slvemike4u -> RE: Obama campaign threatning legal action against critics (9/28/2008 10:35:01 AM)

The author of the straight talk express would never do such a thing.......would he?

That response is part of the normal parry and riposte of politics.  It is vastly different from The One's police-state approach.

McCain is the mature politician.  The One is not.

CL this is strictly your take on things.Others might not have noticed the maturity level you speak of when we consider his less than sterling performance during this latest crisis.Mucking things up in Washington, declaring the debate needed to be cancelled unless a deal was in place...and than when he realised how bad he looked...showing up at the debate despite no deal....if this is maturity it is coming disguised as something else.

His affiliation to William Ayers is not a lie.

Do some research of your own.....

Just what are 'ties' and 'affiliations' ? Is there a presumption that policy and law will be affected by these people ? I much more dislike the insiders within a campaign that could.

If we go down that list I am thinking McCain somes out a capitalist fascist. Both parties are corrupt as we see in this bailout that will get done and both parties should be cast into the dustbin of history with the real formation of a 3rd party.

The Obama campaign could make McCain look like he had 'ties' and 'affiliations' with the NVA (N. Vietnamese Army) given the latter's broadcasting experience on Radio Hanoi.

Again, document his "police-state" approach, put in context by a reputable source, not Hank the blogger.

Bullshit.  This accusation is of a direct assault on the First Amendment.  Intimidation, under color of authority, has no place in our political process.  This is not a partisan issue, and I haven't any words yet (that XI would let me get away with anyway) to describe those who would turn a blind eye to it.

No.  He isn't.  I want a lot more credible sources looking into this.

Do remember that Drudge was a nobody blogger once too, though.

I'm sure Hank will be equally famous someday, once someone adopts him and gives the poor guy a last name.

That's what has me puzzled about this whole thing, Muse.  Something like this might not matter to Joe Sixpack Jerkoff, who just votes for the taller candidate, but among those who care about freedom of the press, say reporters, this is a fucking third rail.

I cannot imagine the people at the Obama headquarters wouldn't recognize the danger in authorizing such a program.  This could turn the rear half of his airplane into a very unfriendly place.

Exactly.

Which is why it most likely is another exaggerated situation that some local reporter and/or blogger latched onto in order to create a story.

If there is any truth here,  it most likely was caused by low-level local campaign staff doing something without thinking through the repercussions and without authorization from higher levels.

The Missouri Governor is naming names all the way up to the United States Senate (two seperate links to the statement already on this thread), RML, and somebody within government has their name at the bottom of a piece of paper authorizing the program.  This shit looks to be happening on the clock (a serious violation of ethics standards, and probably law).  Heads need to roll over this, and if the Obama camp is smart (....) he'll swing an ax personally.

I'm popping over to Google on this every so often.  National Review Online seems to be the biggest name with any coverage.

Musicmystery -> RE: Obama campaign threatning legal action against critics (9/28/2008 2:34:06 PM)

I'm seeing no credible, supported coverage. And it's hardly plausible on its face.

Not buying it.
