ORIGINAL: kiwisub12 Uterine ablation is a procedure where an instrument is introduced into the uterus through the cervix, under anaesthesia, and the lining of the uterus is burnt - or ablated- away. It heals up as scar tissue which contains little endometrium (which is the tissue that bleeds). There are several different ways of doing it, but the outcome is slight to no periods. You can't become pregnant after this procedure, so its only for women who are done with child birth - actually there is a chance you could become pregnant, but don't think you can carry to term. Its a great procedure for women who are having long periods with issues with anaemia and cramping and missing work. Some of the different methods are - rollerball which is an electrical ablation using a ball to roll over the endometrium to burn it another one is where a balloon is introduced into the utereus and water is heated to burn the uteral lining - no water is actually free in the uterus another - heated water is introduced into the uterus itself and burns the lining another - a radiofrequency probe is introduced into the uterus and burns the lining with radiofrequence waves. Like i said, there are several ways of doing the same thing - and your doctor is the one to decide which is best for him and you, depending on what he trained with. Good luck. Thanks, thats a pretty good start for her for information. I'm looking forward to getting it done... I am way too familiar with cramping like knives, anemia and long periods ...but the only way I miss work is when I'm spending too much time in the bathroom.. being a single parent makes it impossible to miss work unless I can't move. I have a new job with no sick time yet :( so I'm hoping for the balloon ablation close to the weekend so that I can use it to recoup.
