What I was saying, DesFIP, is that habit breaking is not that simple. There is not one thing that will work for everyone - it does vary with the habit, but also with the person. Spanking might not work for seatbelts, because it is done too many times in comparrison with the number of spankings you will have time for. But, just being required to call D everytime you get in the car so He can say 'are you belted?' might work. The rubber band method might work for someone, as well, and, again, that is a punishment method. Probably the best method for seatbelts is an assocation method to help remeber - associating the seat belting with putting in the key, for instance, combined with the calender method for reward. A sticker on a calander everytime you go all day without forgetting, and a nice reward when you get to 21 consecutive stickers. for picking, spanking might work, if, inspite of you thinking otherwise, a need for pain is one of the causes - getting your pain needs met might help. If you start feeling that is the case - esp if you start thinking that you are picking in order to 'earn' spankings, you might consider flipping the system, and using spankings as a reward for NOT picking. You might also have to break this down into parts - no picking fingernails, for instance, and then move on to more generalazations. For fingernails, you might get acrylics and see if that makes if harder for you to pick. I would also suggest habit replacement. for instance, everytime you catch yourself about to pick, you could do something else - brush the front of your blouse, run your hands through your hair, ect. You will end up with some small ticks, but might be happier with that than with the picking. but be aware that picking is associated with certain low-level mental illnesses - tourettes and aspburgers, OCD, ect. some of these can be imporved with meds. You might talk to your doc. Also, in these cases, it is often a matter of not liking the way imperfections on your skin 'feel'. using moisterizer daily and keeping nails filed ultra smooth might help, as well. GL.
