Damn, I must be lucky or the insurance here is way cheaper than other places in the US of A. I pay USD884 per annum for two cars, an 88 Volvo 240, which I don't have collision on, and a 94 Benz E320 droptop, with a 1K deductible. This is with Geico. Maybe I'll shop around, but I don't think I'll do much better. I don't drive very much, and I don't commute, and I don't smoke, so all that has benefits. They don't know that I expose myself to soccer moms in their Escalates and You-cons, though. That would probably jack up the premiums considerably.

Insurance is expensive until you have an unfortunate accident and need it.  Just saying.

Speaking from my own experience, this is so true.

I have full no claims and have been driving around 10 years and I pay approx £200FC.

You also live in a part of the UK which sucks for public transport.  The SW is notoriously bad, I should know!  Not all the public services are like that but even the trains in the SW are not good.  Where I am now, the transport is brilliant and in London itself, it's regular - even if the traffic sucks.  Other areas of the country also have good services but the rural and coastal areas and ports of the SW suffer - it's the price you pay for living somewhere pretty - ya know I keep suggesting you move.
