Will your clients be seeing your car? Because if you park it and then walk into their offices, it doesn't matter what you drive. If you are driving them places, then that's different.

However I would rather be driven in a more modest car that is kept in perfect condition than a more showy one that is parked on the street and all dinged up.

Being a New Yorker, cars are of no concern. We grab cabs or walk or take the subway depending on the time we have to get someplace and nobody looks twice.

But how does a luxury car fly with a strategy of offering carbon offsets? Seems like you should be driving something small and depressing to be appropriately "green"

Why would I be envious? I don't care what you drive. It was merely a suggestion about a superior car.
Shouldn't you be getting a convertible?

I should be getting a two seater sports convertible yes

But, two UMs in tow - and a convertible where I live would last about two minutes!

Good point (and well remembered, by the way!) - I have to look into this and get the emissions offset on mine and my staff's cars too.

But since the biggest trucks in Europe produce 1kg per km and that costs £0.0064 to offset, its really not a big problem to run a Jag and be green!

Color me green, too.  I've always wanted one of the sleeker makes of Jaguar.  Happy driving!

True, i'm just thinking in terms of the impression you make. Hell, I've got a surplus of trees, I'd be happy to name a couple after you in exchange for a Toffee Crisp

Thanks for the offer OMW - but I'm already named after part of a tree - in Spanish anyway (el leno - the log, I believe!)

Congrats lady E....nice car...and my car is British racing green as well...it looks stunning when it is clean but I do find it shows the dirt pretty easily damnit.

I picked it up this afternoon!

The diminutives accompanied me, we signed the papers and then drove it round for nearly two hours through the towns and countryside here. Its amazing - 70mph feels like you're not moving at all - easy to see how one could get into trouble with it, and so many gadgets! And I only stalled it twice - not bad seeing how I'm used to an automatic these days.

Tomorrow - 110 mile business trip to Cambridge - motorway nearly all the way, so we'll see what it can do!

I will do pix honest!

In the meantime it went like a dream to Cambridge and back; 80mph like it was just getting going. I passed lots of Jaguar X Types on the trip - I thought that was the top of the range one but they look smaller and less impressive than the S Type; anyone know?

But by goodness its some car - its enormous next to other cars. I met the guys from the bank at the hotel we'd arranged - these two, both middle management, turned up one in a VW Golf and one in some tiny Peugeot. Crikey did I feel suddenly wealthy - mind you its one thirsty vehicle this, so I'm not going to be wealthy for long if I have to make a few trips in it!

I called in at my parents on the way home; my dad was not impressed - or rather he was impressed but had no intention of letting it show and kept making the point that his Ford had most of the features my new monster has. Now if he has a problem with it, I cant wait for the family get together next week when my brothers get to see it!
