By the time you typed that double spaced, you could have added the link. Not everyone (including me) is going to jump to another forum and begin searching. Is this an example of your coherence and lightheartedness? And you deny being patronising? lol

Ok, so you couldn't find it.

True story, from the home of my beloved but very conservative, Repubie, Fundementalist sister:
My Nephew was running for Middle School President. They got to give a five minute stump speach, but it had to be approved by the principle.
The principle nixed my nephews closing line. He had wanted to close with: "I may not be a smart man, but, - look who's running our country.'

chiaThePet -> RE: Chris Rock (10/8/2008 7:16:15 AM)

Well, you know how learning institutions are about teaching respect for your
elders, authority figures and leaders whether Repubie or not.

Your nephews comment made it's point directed at a specific target and
included a jab at himself without intentionally or unintentionally including
a vulnerable segment of society to prove that point. He has a good future.

I didn't write the joke
I didn't post the joke here
I didn't laugh at the joke
I remarked upon how humour can provoke thought, even harsh humour.

tsatske -> RE: Chris Rock (10/8/2008 11:16:48 AM)

AND He didn't inhale.

I do not seek election. If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve (which would make one differant from all the other elected officials, how....)

If God had intended for us to vote, he would have given us canadates.

MadAxeman -> RE: Chris Rock (10/8/2008 11:26:02 AM)

I can't be bothered to inform those who refuse to learn.
That is true ignorance.
Your narrowminded, childish and shameful asides are pathetic.

HisWill -> RE: Chris Rock (10/8/2008 7:15:03 PM)

It was humor. presumably it would provoke thought. though only in those capable of it. (of humor, that is)

MadAxeman -> RE: Chris Rock (10/8/2008 8:30:56 PM)

It failed to take off HW.

tsatske -> RE: Chris Rock (10/9/2008 6:53:16 AM)

I accidently posted as 'us'. I wasn't aware I was signed on that account. oh, well.
Rather you find someones posts humourous or not, to take it as somekind of personal insult is just silly.
I had a brief surge of guilt over something i often do - i can wander off topic, and in some forums it is not appreciated, and i understand that and usually feel badly that i posted inapproprately, when someone takes me to task.
Then i relized - this is the humor forum. It might be better to come in here when you have one.

MadAxeman -> RE: Chris Rock (10/9/2008 7:07:54 AM)

Have one what?
Read the thread and you will see that I'm the opposite of what you're saying.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Chris Rock (10/9/2008 9:58:31 AM)

where were we?   Oh yes, Chris Rock.

I love me some Chris Rock.  You know, the reason humor is funny is because of two things...

It takes us in a swerve direction we didn't expect.  (A man walks into a bar, bar being a pub... the punchline, OUCH.  bar being a metal stick)... all knock knock jokes are like this.

Or there is an element of truth to it.
The ... look who is running the country as noted above.  W being a C student and all that.

I worked with people with dev disabilities for years.  Did I learn and grow because of my work there?  You betcha!  Did I appreciate the point of view of the people I worked with?  You betcha!  Did I recognize there was a difference in our IQs?  You betcha!  But I also recognized the innocence and the beauty of that innocence.... an innocence they hold and I have lost. Rarely is anything black or white.  the world is full of greys, colors, pastels, jewel tones.  And ain't it perty?

Sometimes I had to blow off steam.  And blowing off steam with my friends was not always politically correct.  BUT it did allow me to continue doing the work I was doing.  And I was damn good at it.  I once got chastised by a woman who told me I was rude in what I was saying.  And my response was, "OH?  Is that right?  I get up every day and help them, I face them every day, I get them services they need, I hug and encourage them every day.  I teach them.  What do YOU do?  Nothing.  I know, you do nothing.  So, when YOU get up and you DO THE WORK, you can complain about what I'm saying."    Chia, you do the work, so go ahead, darling, go ahead.  Say whatever you want!

And on another note...
Humor is often offensive.   Watch the movie the Aristocrats. Listen to George Carlin.  What is it they say about South Park?  We are non discriminatory, we make fun of everybody.  But I'll tell you what, I laugh till I cry.  And THAT is wonderful.

Ok, end of soap box.  have a nice day.

tsatske -> RE: Chris Rock (10/9/2008 10:12:28 AM)

I know what you mean, Sunshine.
I often think this country, this society, is too focused on IQ as the ultimate value. I can not say for sure than a Devolopmentally Handicapped person will never be president.
This joke is really just taking the time, not so much to point out that W is a C student and not the brightest apple on the tree, but, more than that, that the man is *stupid*. And stupid is not about IQ, it's an attitude and an approach to life. I don't vote for people that I can see are stupid.
Humor is like that. It tells us something when we look at it closely. But, mostly, it's funny.
I love Chris Rock. He often makes particular astute observations about race that just make me roll. Like his comments on Monica Lewinski during the Clinton Admin. Still some of the funniest humor on the block.

MadAxeman -> RE: Chris Rock (10/9/2008 11:17:23 AM)

Hooray! This is what I was hoping for.
Check out Little Britain USA for confronting some uncomfortable truths with humour.
