I have always been "bitchy" during that time of the month, and not in a good sorts.  I'm also very exhausted when I'm going through it as well.  What I want to ask is how do other submissives keep their submissive attitude when hormones are running amoke?

Mine is about to start, and I'm already starting to feel that way, but I want a way that I can keep it under control and be respectful to the one that I dearly love.

Thanks in advance,

Spankable

Midol is your friend!

I have noticed that my crankiness has gotten worse over the last few years. Most times I don't even realize I'm doing it until I'm slamming cupboard doors because the paper didn't arrive on time.[:-]

I've started marking on my personal calendar, the days when this little emotional era begins and for me, I can almost pinpoint the hour it begins. It helps to know, believe it or not. Lol. So my suggestion would be for you to do the same.

Stay alert to yourself and how you're reacting to things around you. Take a deep breath and walk away if you have to. Lock yourself in the bathroom with a book for half an hour. Take a walk. Go watch a show. Distract yourself and tell those around you what's happening, that you need a few minutes of nothing. Sometimes, just a hug from someone understanding helps that moment to pass.

Communicate what you're feeling, even if you're not sure what you're feeling - just don't fall in the habit of chalking every disgruntled or out of whack emotion to 'that time of the month'. I'm sure your partner will be willing to help you through this if you keep sharing what you're experience, even if it's a need to be alone for a short while.

At work, I find a different task to work on until I'm calm, cool and collected to come back to the one that frustrates me at that time. (This is not always possible, I know, but over time - it does get easier to control)

I think of it as close to quitting smoking. Those 'nic fits' that send emotions cartwheeling through your mind but you're fine 15 minutes after it's passed.

I know this isn't for everyone, but it's what helps me. And Midol. Midol really helps me. I think I should buy shares in the company. [:D]

I hope this helps you too.

LOL!  A former girlfriend once handed me a bottle of Midol and said "Defend yourself!"

She asked me to make her take them whenever she got out of sorts during her period.  We made a little game of it and it lightened the mood of the whole process considerably.

Otter, making a game out of it is a good idea! That kind of thing would keep me from being all "doom and gloom" about it.

I know for me, I get cranky to the point where I can walk outside and be angry that the sky is blue. *sigh*

OP, whenever that happens to me I always made it a point to keep my Sir informed as to how I was feeling and what was going on with me. It served two purposes 1) He was able to be more empathetic to me but more importantly, 2) Sharing my feelings with Him made what I was feeling less spooky, upsetting and generally negated it. Once I was able to put a name to how I was feeling, I could tame it.

And of course...bring on the Midol!!

Chocolate. Preferably dark.

Other than that I just try not to let it get to me, I get mood swings, so either I'll be irritated with things or I'll super sensitive and more likely to get depressed over small stuff.

sunshinemiss -> RE: That time of the month moodiness (10/3/2008 10:11:22 AM)

exercise... I find that helps me get out some of my aggression.

pixidustpet -> RE: That time of the month moodiness (10/3/2008 10:12:17 AM)

keeping TheEngineer informed is KEY.  it didnt matter so much with Daddy since we didnt live together, but boy..TheEngineer has a way of tapdancing on my VERY last nerve and then smiling about it.  makes me grit my teeth and say to myself "he's the dominant....he's the dominant....he's the dominant..."

he knows i'm doing it, too.  once i have myself under control again i get a "that's my good baby" which helps emotionally, but DANG getting to that place is a bitch!!!  [:D]

for me, snuggle time helps.  by then he has to just about force me to come sit by him and be held, but within a few minutes i can feel the tension going away.  as i'm in that "certain age" where perimenopause seems to begin, my nerves are kinda iffy to begin with...as is "hon, when is your period going to start again?" *sighs*  for some reason he still wants to keep me.

relaxation/new age music ...plus listening to Pink Floyd (The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon) works wonders for my moodiness.

my time of the month just passed and didn't have the bitchy moodiness as usual. mostly because my asthma has been bothering for the last two weeks - so i'm trying to keep my stress at a calm level.

littleone35 -> RE: That time of the month moodiness (10/3/2008 11:31:27 AM)

For me before i had my surgery i used to tell Master it was that time of the month and i might be a little cranky  like sunshinrmiss said exercise was a big help.  Now i still get some of the symptoms, but no more cramps and don't get quite as cranky.  I just get tired and sore nipples (which Master loves) other than that i am fine.

More than once I would be in the kitchen, when suddenly a package of M&Ms would come sailing into the room, landing with a thud.  I would walk out into the living room, and not a soul to be found.  One of the few smart things my ex did.

For me, Acetaminophen (1000 mg) alternated with Ibuprofen (800 mg), chocolate (sometimes), lots of cuddle time with Sir, patience with myself and understanding from Sir helps tremendously.  A good comedy show doesn't hurt either.

Music YES! It really does sooth this savage beast.

In addition, something I learned from a spiritual teacher. To take a big step back and watch myself. Almost as though I was floating above, watching me. It allows me to observe in a detached way my behaviour and thereby, be more in control of it. I know why I am feeling the way I am and that whatever is upsetting me is not as big a deal as it feels at the moment.

I also find that spending more time alone during that time is a good thing. If I am working that day, go directly home and retreat if I can, as soon as possible. That time of the month is NOT the time to skimp on sleep, taking your vitamins or eating well. Go for a nice long walk and breath in lots of fresh air, contemplate the stars. Meditate.

GabrielleSlave -> RE: That time of the month moodiness (10/3/2008 11:56:25 AM)

Master and i have an agreement that i tell Him when i need to kill someone or something, but He seems to know before i do.  If Wwe are able (last month it was not possible as my tattoo was too new), He gives me a particularly intense whipping session and that always works!  Total cure, wonderful!  Won't work for everyone, but does for this slave!

Hugs

You've been given some very good suggestions here. Might I add that my Doctor suggested taking a B Complex vitamin the week before and the week of that time of the month. It has greatly helped me. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it's worth a shot.

Good idea!! Medically, it makes sense - B-vitamins help with energy and mood regulation...and I could use all the help I can get there.

Thanks!

LOLOLOLLLL...snort....omg. If only there were someone here old enough to buy the M&Ms and had the sense to know when to use them. If i bought them myself...they would just get eaten way before needed.
drat.
Cali, you crack this girl up.

The week before i get particularly masochistic and have very vivid thoughts of what might befall poor poor persephonee...and then i beg for them. It tends to at least give me something else to think about whilst my hormones are raging.

It helps to remember pre-period is when you're medically most male, when the female hormones are at their lowest; the testosterone is running rampant, and your responses are going to be like an angry male's, namely, fast, hard and 'Me First'.
One week later, and the female 'Everything's fine', 'I'm sorry' and 'I'm horny' hormones are back.
Chocolate, working out with a water-filled punching bag and orgasms work for me, but the big one is recognising it for what it is:  normal.
