MzMia -> Obama or McCain,Things we all have in common, I hope (10/4/2008 10:15:05 PM)

It's funny I am enjoying most of the political threads.
Truth be told, many of the posters on the Right, I like,
despite their misguided opinions.
[:D]
One thing I hope we all have in common, no matter WHO wins
next month is:
I hope we all want what is best for the USA.
I hope we all want to see our economy turn around.
I hope we all want to see the housing market become stabilized.

I hope we all want to see people working, thriving, living the American dream,
and getting decent health care with a roof over their heads.
No matter who wins, I hope we all have these things in common and
I hope whoever wins will start to make America the great country it has always been.

I'll jump on that bandwagon with ya. [:)]

We can certainly share your list of goals (and I like a lot of you lefties too.  Not all, but a lot [;)] )

The problem is how we define things like 'what is best for the country,' and how we think the rest of the list is best accomplished.  It starts getting sticky in a hurry.

Thank you Francine, we all  want our country to thrive, be great,
and remain the home of the brave and the free.

I don't think it's that hard to define actually. What's best for this country is when people are working. Everything else is fixable when good jobs are abundant. Good jobs mean people can afford to pay into the coffers, send their kids to college, pay for health care, mortgages etc. Add that to the huge plus that people who work are too busy and too tired to get into too much trouble. I think we have more in common that we like to admit.    Mostly, I think political discourse in America is like talking online.  People begin talking past one another, and before you know it everyone's all riled up about something that they are really not all that far apart on to begin with.
