What does Obama want to buy?

Much has been made of the fact that Obama wants to increase spending by over a trillion dollars over the next four years so I thought folks would like to know exactly what it is he wants to spend that money on.

To keep this in perspective I would remind that the war in Iraq has a monetary price tag of about $3 trillion dollars and has bought us .. um .. nothing.

Please keep in mind this is Obama's wish list .. what he would like Santa to bring him for Xmas if he could have it all. That doesn't mean this would be actual spending and some of it has become moot with the recent $700 billion dollar bailout.

I have no problem with the majority of items on that list.

Believe it or not I am against almost everything on that list, but I would still rather see him get the big chair.

McCain is desperate, and his last refuge will be to attack and smear Obama.

Obama has already fought back with the Keating Economics video.

I do notice that a 'war' isn't on the list or 'tax breaks for rich buddies' or 'government contracts' for my daddy's favourite friends.

I'm not sure but I'm thinking that $4.8 trillion over the next 4 years would be a good start. That would be the money we save by pulling out of Iraq. McCain wants us there indefinitely but hasn't said word one how we're supposed to pay for it. I'd rather get bang for my buck in the form of programs like Head Start rather than bombs for my buck which don't protect me, my country or rid the world of fundie terrorists.

And how do you think the war is paid for? Tax dollars? Fact of the matter is, even if there was no war, we'd still be in the hole. I am not a fan of the war, but even without it he wouldn't have enough money for his socialism.

Tax dollars and borrowing. I'm glad to hear you're not a fan of war. My worry is that McCain is a fan of war and has made it very clear that there will be more wars under his watch.

Bush is on tv right now saying there is a 'good chance' that the taxpayers will get their money back. Somehow, that doesn't make me feel any better. The bailout bill was socialism at its finest so I hope you're as pissed off about it as I am. Like I said, I want some bang for my buck. The wars, this bailout .. that sorta crap does nothing for me. Head Start does something for me .. it gives me hope for the future.

edited to clarify that tax dollars and borrowing is how the war is being paid for.

You are so uneducated. Socialism is not as expensive as capitalism. Take healthcare, Americans pay twice as much for capitalist style healthcare as what Brits do for socialist healthcare, 60% more than the French, 50% more than Germans and here is the punch line. The average American doesn't live as long as the average citizen of any of those countries.

Hell, I could go through a whole list. While those countries spend more on average than America does on education and social projects, they save by not having a social welfare system for the rich.

Socialists don't believe in socialism for the rich, capitalists however, do!

And look at the amount of taxes they pay. I never said one was more expensive. Of course you read what you want, so yeah, have fun.

Suppose... just suppose... that the bailout were to turn a profit. All those bad loans to homeowners were resolved, the housing market recovers as a result of it, and suddenly all the crap we bought for $1.00, is suddenly worth $1.25 for every dollar spent...

Just suppose...

Would it still be "socialisim"... or would you suddenly be crowing about how brilliant Bush and the GOP was, by investing in such "free market capitalisim?"

Clinton loaned Mexico 3.2 billion during his administration, and they paid it back early and with interest... netting the US about $60,000,000 in profit. (you'll notice no one in the GOP likes to talk about THAT being "Clinton's fault.") The point is, it's not without precedent that we COULD come out ahead on this... or at least break more or less even.

I'm just wondering...

...another canard. The tax burden in the UK is broadly similar to the US, and in the UK that tax also pays for health care. Add US health care costs to the US tax burden and the US end up paying a lot more.
