The last view days have seen a rehash of Ayers & Wright (Rez is sure to come up again as well), something we went through in the dem primary. That tactic didn't help Clinton clinch and Obama went on to secure the nomination. Is it going to work this time around in the General Election and give us 4 more years of a pub WH or will it backfire and secure Obama a new residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave?

Negative ads have often worked in the past but is the public getting tired of them?

What say you, the voter?

Hillary didn't lose because people suddenly became enlightened and rejected negative campaigning... as discussed more than once, she lost because she made the classic blunders of the egomaniac, and threw away her advantages.

Mudslinging campaigns work (in conjunction with an education system that keeps a massive part of the electorate functionally illiterate and unable to think for themselves) because they appeal to the basest of emotions.

It is that same combination of ignorance and base emotions that feeds into wars, and keeps the corporations, their lobbyists, their media, and their politicians of every stripe rich and in charge.

It depends what you have to judge by, LadyE.  I can very comfortably say that Rudy Giuliani (I'll use him because he was my early favorite) displayed some rotten character traits, but he also had a complete record to put that against.   John McCain and Sarah Palin are imperfect people and politicians, but we have other things to weigh that against.  Barack?  Not so much.

If character and ability to deliver are all you have, they get a whole lot more important.  Besides, this brutal game is for an ultimate prize that can impact every person on the planet.  We route them through hell along the way.

If McCain's North Vietnamese propaganda goes viral, I will rage against the hypocrisy of those who once felt Swiftboating was so very, very wrong.  I might have a hard time not drawing a particular glance on such threads.  You won't hear me say it should not be permitted.

And if McC and co. cross a line with the kind of puns and wordplay I used earlier in the thread, I will discuss what an incredibly stupid move it was.  This shit can backfire.

The problem McCain has is that he has totally and completely failed to convince the American people that he is going to be in any way different from Bush.  People feel like they know McCain and they don't like what they see so might as well give Barack a chance.  After all, with all the problems created in the last 8 years, what are the odds that change will make things worse?

As of yesterday, Palin was connecting Obama to William Ayres, and was calling him a "domestic terrorist". This angry rhetoric was inciting the crowd she was speaking to to begin chanting "KILL HIM! KILL HIM!!!"

Did Palin immediately dial it back? Nope.

So now McCain /Palin is pushing lynch mob tactics...

Shouldn't you be out looking for the white Republican that assassinated Bobby Kennedy and Harvey Milk?
