if you dont already have them i would invest in them power bars that come with a guarentee if fry the product that you get it replaced by them. up to $10,000 i think is the fee they can pay you. you would have to register the powerbar ... apc or something i think they are...and are under $40.

No insurance, yes, my power is back on, yes it's plugged in (smartass,.,,LOL), when I turn it on, I hear the fan, but nothing else. Thats a good idea, Faery.. I had it plugged into a surge protector power strip, but as someone pointed out to me, when the lightning strike is that close, it can overwhelm the damned things.

Those guarantees cover the cost of the equipment connected to them, not the protective equipment themselves. In my case, I was able to fix my computer so there is no claim. The UPS is expendable as far as its manufacturer is concerned. It gave it's life in the service of protecting the equipment. Now, I may be able to have a claim against the power utility because its installed lightning arrestor did not reset itself fast enough between strikes. Granted, 30 seconds isn't a long time for such a device to drain off the charge from the first strike, so my case may be bumping up against the "act of God" clause in the contract. But, it's still worth a shot. The UPS was not an inexpensive device. It was capable of powering not only my tower, but my entire home entertainment system (amps, monitor, DVD player, etc.) as well for thirty minutes with everything turned on. Luckily, the only thing connected to it at the time was the tower.

gnite, MA :) sappa.. no, I don't know anyone around here. took it to a shop last time it needed work (when the HD died). I;'ve replaced the power supply before. shrug I'll tallk to poen tomorrow, see what we can work out. (I wish she wasnt so far away!)
