Well, it's that evil time of year again...time to make Christmas cookies. While I love to bake and I love Christmas cookies it just kills me that they are sooooo fattening and sooooo hard to resist.
Six different kinds X five dozen each = lots of munching with big glasses of really cold milk.
Yummy yummy yummy.
Hopefully by time Christmas Eve rolls around I won't be rolling around and there will still be a few left for Santa.

Give me a plate of cookies and some Pepsi!

I'm going to try a recipe that uses brownie mix in mini-muffin cups with hershey hugs plopped in the middle.

Eat more; work out more, it's all good.

Go down to the health food store and see about making your cookies with Xylitol, a naturaly made sugar made from a tree bark. It has an extra carbon in it that makes it safe for diabetics/hypoglacemics and fights bacteria helping to prevent cavaties.

www.xlearinc.com check out Xylo Sweet the name brand of Xylitol

A book known as "Sweeten Your Life the Xylitol Way" by Karen Edwards has great recipes on deserts that will allow your sweet tooth to be happy and healthy. This sweetener is really good stuff and has nothing done to it like spleda and other artificial sweeteners than not even rats won't eat.

interesting, I try to lower my sugar with my family's history but that is interesting.

Wonder how it works in sweet potato pie

Oo Katy, I make those and they are good. When I am feeling really creative I also use reeses pb cups or rolos or mints. I know -- it is crazy!

It works just like sugar because it is a sugar and taste great. You can use it to sweeten anything. Give it a try, I garuntee that you and your pancreas will enjoy it.

Stevea is an excellent sweetener. Found at any local health food store. I must warn you though it is highly concentrated.
A little info extracted from the website.

Stevia is extracted from the leaves of the stevia plant, and it has been described as the sweetest supplement on earth. What’s truly extraordinary about stevia is that even though it is so sweet, it has no calories and it’s actually beneficial to health! Stevia is available in convenient packets or in bulk to spoon into beverages and foods. Either way, you’ll want to have it on hand at all times.

My mom passed away last spring, and my sister and I decided that the saddest thing about this Christmas will be not having her cookies. [:(]

Well, I have her recipes....but man, those date nut pinwheels are WORK! lol

You should definitely bake her cookies, from her recipes.
A nice tribute.

My heart is with you, we lost My Mom in August, we feel the same but we are going to bake, yep just like her---huge hugs

windchymes -> RE: Damn the calories! (12/7/2005 3:17:20 PM)

Thanks, Katy & MH......yes, we'll definitely bake them! Traditions are meant to be passed down and carried along.

Big hug back to you, MH....the first year is the hardest. Enjoy her memory as you bake with your family [:)]

This probably isn't the thread for it, but I'm going to relate this anyway.....

Another of Mom's traditions was to buy my sister and I each our own big bag of M&M's every Christmas. Plain for Sis and peanut for me. I don't remember exactly when she started that, I think we were in high school/college (six year difference in ages).....but she did that every single year up through last year. Sis and I kind of laughed about it and rolled our eyes sometimes, and it became the Christmas "joke". But we were always secretly pleased to get our M&M's. Well.....

I bought a big bag of plain M&M's for her yesterday. And I'm so hoping she'll get me a bag of the peanut[:)] (She lives in another state, but I'm going there for Christmas)

Ah, hugs to you.
You will be crying and so will she, over the m&m's.
