Status: offline 		How many of you have followed a band so long that you watched them evolve? What band (or artist)? How did they change?

For me, that band is Mushroomhead. Ive followed them since theyre second show, opening for GWAR at the Agora in cleveland. Ive seen them go through multiple members, different phases and sound changes. For example, theyve gone from the old school:

Ive watched them rise from a side project to a cult classic, to world fame, the fall, and now them trying to pick themselves back up with a new frontman. I have to admit, theyre my favorite.

Status: offline 		I saw The Police before they dyed their hair, a year before Roxanne.
Regardless of the artist, there can arise a feeling that the band belong to you, then betray you with the sell outs, pretentious statements, bloated stadium gigs.
The Clash are the only ones who stayed true to their ideals, although there were the inevitable rows and tailing off after member changes.

Holly,
I have to agree with you on this. I sometimes wonder who really wrote their music in the early beginnings, as it was fantastic! Then slowly, the music started to just go from fantastic to embarrassingly bad, in my opinion.

Status: offline 		opHaving been in the music industry, I could probably write a few books about this topic.  The first that comes to mind is Wire Train because I still listen to them today.

Long ago and far, far away in the 80s there was a not-so popular pop-rock band much like the Police called Wire Train.  They started as a garage punk-pop band (like the Police) and matured into an underground creative force as one of the “artist’s artist”.  From the low-tech Chamber Of Hellos as a beginning they evolved to produce more sophisticated things like Stone Me and Crashing Back to You.

Status: offline 		   The first one to come to My mind is Kings X. I've been a fan since their first album back in 1988. Seen them too many times to count. They still release music and tour. Still the original 3 members. Just saw them about a month ago as a matter of fact. They never broke big, had one or two "semi" hits, but never got the success they deserve. A very well-respected band among musicians. I still have that "My band" feeling about them.
  I had a friend who was in the military, stationed in Cali. He used to go see Van Halen playing covers in clubs as "Mammoth" before they changed their name and got signed.

Agreed. Kings X never got the fame they deserved. Granted, theyre not a real "radio" band, but neither was Pantera. Half of making it in the music industry is luck I think.

As for holly, yes, as far as alabama goes, yes, I am saying that  *ducks and runs*

Status: offline 		i've reviewed over 400 plus bands ...many i've seen rise reaching that local stardom - a few of them nationally like Kill Hannah, The Lifeline, Fall Out Boy. on the flipside, i've seen bands rise quickly and fall so hard that i receive "this is our last show" invites on my myspace page. also there are others who have great music but don't have that fanbase and/or drive to keep it going after a year or two.
