I thought this was worth sharing here for those US peoples :)

It's a site that will link you to all the info that you need about voting in this election, even whether or not you're registered, where your poling place is, if you can do 'early' voting, that sort of thing. Very helpful (too bad I stumbled on it so late)!

Not necessarily.  Voter registration lists are just one pool from which jurors are picked.  If you have a driver's license, you're also eligible for summons.  That you haven't yet been called is just dumb luck.

I've been registered to vote since I was 18.  I've had a driver's license since I was 16.  I have never been called for jury duty.  I really don't understand why.  I live in a county with only 90,000 people, and we have a Federal courthouse in this county.

I'd actually like to do jury duty, I got out of it once when I was a student but always wondered what kind of case it would have been, if any. Takes you out of your routine which is also nice if you like a change.

i've voted in every election except one since i registered when i was 18.  i was sick that time and couldn't get out of the house.  this year i went absentee ballot.  "no excuse not to vote if you know ahead of time it might not be possible to get out on that day" my grandpa would tell me.  got the message.

Just the luck of the draw.  My Dad lived in a county of less than 20,000 for 80 years and never once got summoned.  I did not have the same luck.  I spent 10 weeks on a grand jury last summer.  The upside is, if I ever want to change careers, now I know how drugs are packaged for sale.

Stef is right, jury duty is attached to your drivers license as well.

Since living in this small county in NE where the residents number something like 5000 total I've been called up 3 times now.
Amazingly enough people who have lived here 30 years only were called up once.

I can vote and I will vote.

My vote will probably be useless. I’m voting for McCain (Obama is just to far left for me) and here in New York... well... ya never know. New York went for Reagan twice. No, I vote because, despite the cynicism of some, it is remarkable (especially when you consider the history of the world) that a nobody (relatively speaking) like me has a say, however little, in who his leader is. I am mouse, hear me roar.

I’ve never been called for jury duty despite having a driving licence, and being registered to vote, since I was 18. I suppose it would be interesting if it was a juicy case (serial killer or something like that). Knowing my luck, if I ever do get called, it will probably be for something lame like embezzlement. Sitting in a jury box while listening to accountants drone on for hour after hour... I can think of few things more horrifying.

          I received my sample ballot in the mail today.  The two big things I plan to vote on are both going to lose in CA.  I will vote anyway.  I was surprised to see the Dems don't even have a candidate on the ticket for my Rep in the House.

         I've been called for jury duty a number of times.  Never selected (wear a tie-die t-shirt, they send you home).

I have always been registered and always voted...even all the primaries and run offs. I have been called for jury duty and immediately dismissed (My father was at the time a criminal defense attorney and the judge had worked in his firm) will never miss the chance to voice my opinion no matter the election or issue at hand. For all the cynicism out there they who bitch the most should be first in line to change things!

I am registered but have passed on this year's local elections.  I had not lived around here long enough to know anything about the people running.  I hate to guess on things that could affect my local area.  I was once told not to"shit where I eat."  I think guessing and getting the wrong person elected would be exactly that.

There was a report on the BBC this week about voter registration in the US and particularly the "irregularities" allegedly perpetrated by one side or the other - though mostly it seemed by one side rather than the other in more provable cases.

One particular instance concerned the election supervisor in one town (New Mexico I think) who was stunned to find he wasnt on the electoral roll on polling day, even though he had been on it the week or so before.

If you cant manipulate the voters, manipulate who can vote.

I sincerely hope that all who should have a vote get a vote this time round

Unfortunately, I can't vote due to a felony conviction involving marijuana for something I did in 1986. I live in Florida and the process here to restore my civil rights regarding voting involves lots of time, money, reems of paper work and, finally, an appearance before a board that includes the governor and some of his cabinet. Ironically, I can have my right to own firearms restored rather easily,as well as my pilot's license and boat captain's license.

(Seriously, it strikes me as unbelievable that your right to vote hasn't been restored. It looks like the voting process is one huge mess. Perhaps it's time to centralise it and apply one rule for all.)
