BP is very common and the SSC crowd are scared...

I get around a fair bit (okay, quite a bit) and don't understand how anyone else who also gets around could come to this conclusion.  I see breath play at nearly every dungeon or play party I attend.  There are routinely workshops on breath play at munches and events.

You speak as if SSC demands a list of safe, and unsafe, activities.  As if we all have the same abilities, experiences, are psychologicaly and physically identical with the same level of risk acceptance/aversion.  Frankly, I believe that sort of belief arises from ignorance.  SSC does not produce a list of safe and unsafe activities... it's a decision making process in which each individual can assess their own abilities, experiences, physical and emotional health, etc. in order to determine if they wish to engage in a specific activity.

Reliable factual information regarding risk is necessary in order for informed consent to exist.  What upsets many people about breath play is that, unlike most any other type of play, there is no way to mitigate some of the risks (ie: it's impossible to reduce the risk associated with cardiac arrest).  There is no technique... no level of experience... that can reduce that risk.

And with that information... go forth and make up your own mind as to whether you wish to engage in breath play.  No fear mongering here.

The best information I ever found about breath play was in a demo run by DK of the Leather Family  .... go to www.leatherfamily.co.uk and flip through their notes on the subject there .... brilliant.

Breath play is stupid, dangerous, it places untold responsibility on the Top and can kill you days after you have played.

I adore breath play, being choked until I hit the floor is an incredible turn on, I am also an asthmatic. I am asking something decidedly edgy of my Tops when I ask them to do breath play with me ... because I am asking them if they would be OK in perhaps murdering me.

Its stupid and dangerous ... never *EVER* forget that.

Well, more like manslaughter or involuntary homicide than murder.

I found this interesting enough to look up, in case anyone is interested.

It would be either  "involuntary manslaughter", "negligent homicide", or "reckless murder"; each have different extenuating cirucmstances, but all are considered accidental.  Reckless murder I think fits the best in this type of scenerio, since it considers that the killer placed the victim at uneccessary risk by doing something that they should have known would/could likely cause death.

"Manslaughter", on the other hand, is considered intentional, but with the "excuse" that the killer is mentally incompetent on some level, which is what distinguishes it from "murder".
