Rule, I think you need to remove your emotion about the issue and begin to actually read the words on the screen rather than impart your personal feelings into them.

I never said I agreed, not once. I only stated my opinion of what I heard and saw around me, AT THAT TIME. Including the left media. Me, I've alternately laughed at him and shook my head that this country, of presumably intelligent people, actually elected him.

On 9/11, when GW was on tv blathering his sympathetic crap, I was pointing a finger at him in blame. Blaming him, and every other American citizen like him, that treats people that are not like us, with distain.

Yes, I know you do not support him.  My apologies if I seemed to be jumping down your throat.

I just get angry about it because that whole "fall in behind our leader" herd mentality is what led to him being able to bullshit us into Iraq without question because noone, not the media, not Congress, wanted to appear to be unpatriotic at that point.

Try being a member of a family with multiple military members serving in Iraq and having strong anti-Bush/war in Iraq, opinions that you have no reserve about expressing! [:D]

The funny part was, the military personel were VERY supportive of me, the other family members, and family members of other local soldiers, not so much so....

However, it has been evident more and more the past ten years that the world is connected integrally, especially economically.
i guess for the US there is time to look beyond the rim of the teacup....

The U.S. has for a while been on the brink of blowing its influence due to overconfidence, simplistic short-term thinking, and an arrogant ignorance of the history of empire after empire falling for the same reasons, with the sole exception that all the other empires took longer to fall. Bush not only edged us down that path, but institutionalized policies that ensure it.

In short order, the U.S. will be a world power in the sense that the Dutch are still a world power.

meatcleaver -> RE: Evaluation of President G. W. Bush! (10/10/2008 1:34:18 PM)

Its amazing how quick things change. When Clinton was in power the world was charmed but the Republicans then seemed to decide the US needed to make itself look like a banana republic as they went after Clinton on any charge they could concoct.

Just can't understand the small mindedness and the bittterness of Republicans.

As much as I can't stand him, he did handle 9/11 fairly well. Unfortunately he went downhill fast afterwards.

Forgive me as subtleties and sarcasm can be missed. A feather rarely works with me, but a 2 x 4 usually gets my attention.

So, in reference to the above, you're kidding, right?

Uncle Nasty

No, I am not kidding. From where I sat, alot of people took comfort in the way he conducted himself on, and in the days immediately following 9/11. Nothing like that had happened in most of our lifetimes and it shook people to their cores. He did what a president should do, get on tv and give people some reassurance that live was going to go on and that something was being done.

Again, I am the furthest thing from being a Bush supporter. I detest the man. But, unlike many people that post on these forums I do my best to avoid wearing blinders to all facets of any individual. The last person I want to be our next president is John McCain, but I would never say he is a worthless individual or that he has not served his country in the way he felt was best. Both as a soldier and a politician. I just happen to feel he is not the right person for the job right now.

These are the joys of being a registered independent. Objection decision making based upon facts. Add that to my ability to remove emotion from my process and I am very comfortable in my choices.

Even though I disagree with you politcally, I appreciate the breath of fresh air you bring with this post.   Both pro/con on any issue have passionate disciples.  However, even our worst enemy has some inherent good...even if it's a tiny good.
Intelligent discussion is the core of democracy...doesn't mean we have to agree with everything someone says...but listen to what they say to maybe learn something.

The good:

1. Fight against Islamic terrorism.
  a. War in Iraq (finally getting it right)
  b. Patriot act
2.  Renewed world respect for the political strength of the US
3. Supreme Court appointments.

Bad:

1. Signed bankruptcy bill,
2. Poorly managed relations with Congress:
a. Let the Republicans desert conservative principles,
b. Failed to confront the Democratic Congress
3. Pretty much destroyed the conservative aspects of the Republican party

Vielleicht als Deutsch, Ihren Standpunkt ist schmal, als Sie denken.

Es ist nicht die Bevölkerung der Welt, die bestimmen, ob eine Nation ist stark, es ist der politische Führer.

My name is Lisa Kalvelage, I was born in Nuremberg
And when the trials were held there nineteen years ago
It seemed to me ridiculous to hold a nation all to blame
For the horrors that the world did undergo
A short while later when I applied to be a G. I. bride
An American consular official questioned me
He refused my exit permit, said my answers did not show
I'd learned my lesson about responsibility.
(Pete Seeger?)

That one?

NumberSix -> RE: Evaluation of President G. W. Bush! (10/10/2008 3:50:33 PM)

No, the one that goes something like...

I'm not Lisa,
my name is Gertrude;
Lisa left you,
for some other guy.

I wish I would have thought of the Pete Seeger one, but I lack the couth.

With the election going on, put that aside for a moment, and lets see how we feel about President Bush's performance in the last eight years.
Give me three good things and three bad things.

I cannot think of anything 'good'.  I don't have time to list the bad, nor can I dwindle it down to merely three.

And I doubt he would take a walk with any of us.

~fr~
He got the world to step back and take a critical look at our Shining City On The Hill so they could see that the shine was really just coming from one of those worn-out neon signs that keeps going 'brap...braaap...braaap...' and is actually pretty annoying. He provided tons of material for Jon Stewart and Colbert...I mean some really good shit! He presided over an administration that fucked up SO badly that the pendulum actually started to swing back...something I didn't think possible four years ago.

He's a shitty dancer. He and his minions (though it's actually he who is the minion) took corruption and cynicism to breathtaking new heights. Worst of all, the actions (and sometimes, inactions) of his administration directly and indirectly caused the deaths of many thousands of innocent people. And, gee, I can't help but notice that our country (myself included) is just a tad bit testy and polarized now. But he was gonna be a "uniter" wasn't he? Dang!
