ORIGINAL: Arturas Seriously, please explain why you would slander her and think she has multiple personalities and would think it ok to say that in an open forum posting or back away from the computer yourself. Her only problem has been taking you people seriously. "Seriously". And btw, while you're at it, you might consider getting a real picture of yourself posted as your betters have or put up a flower or something instead rather than pretending. OK... *cracks fingers* I just love coming home after slaving over a dozen or more case files today and finding folks misusing legal terms on message boards. This kind of thing tends to make my panties moist, but my kink need not be anyone else's kink. Slander: defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc. So, by the very use of the term "slander," Kali is not guilty of the instant offense. The proper word would be "libel" when referring to: defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures. However, Kali is also not guilty of libel in this instance. Therefore, the use of both terms, slander or libel, are erroneous and false. Malicious intent would need to be present in both cases. However, no such intent exists. Kali has made no secret of the fact that she is a licensed clinical social worker by trade, and has a very solid understanding of things related to the mental health field. Proper usage of possible professional assessments contained in the DSM-IV is not malicious. It is nothing more than a "job hazard," if you will. People who are trained in certain fields see things that the untrained eyes and ears might miss or mistake. It is the same for me when I read legal jargon used improperly. I notice it, and when necessary, correct it. If Kali were talking as a lay person, and said, "[Person X] is a sociopath" depending on method of communication, it may be considered slander or libel, if that person were not clinically diagnosed and it was being stated merely for the sake of insulting him or her. Again, this was not the case. To state such is dead wrong. She actually offered her professional opinion as to whom may be able to provide some insight into the behaviors displayed on the boards and to some via private messages. One would think that having a loved one be whole and well, a good thing. Perhaps I am alone in this thinking. Kali, whom I know personally, (I have seen her, talked to her, let her stay with me during her vacation), is not "pretend." If that were true, my Dad, the Things, DB, Trapped, Trapped's Sir, and DC would all be suffering from group hallucinations, both visual and auditory. That, again, is not the case. She, like many others, chooses to use an avatar instead of a photograph on the boards. That does not make her any less real, true, or valid. To say that using actual photos on the boards and such, makes someone "better" (in any sense, whether it be Gorean or not) is, in my estimation, assinine. Following this logic, Mod XI, is not real and is merely "pretending." I bet that there are many people, including myself, who are aware of her existence. I would venture to say that the shutting down of the offending thread in the Introduction section was not done by osmosis, telepathy, or by playing "pretend." As to the way certain people have conducted themselves throughout this debacle, there are barely words to describe how poorly they reflect on themselves, their partners, and friends. To get into a virtual pissing contest over something so absolutely stupid as the goings-on of various threads the past week, is ridiculous. And for what??? Is anyone going to get a gold star on their behavior chart for this? Are they going to get some mystical "Twue Kinkster" points for any of this garbage? I think not. It is truly pathetic that the actions, inactions, or reactions of one poster can have the ripple effect that this type of drivel has had here, where many of us come to "escape" and play with our peers. I prefer Alka-Seltzer to be of the medicinal variety, and not the human form, that, once dropped into the mix, effervesces like some sort of toxic waste flowing down a mountain side. Simply my dollar fifty's worth here... but I feel that I am right. ~ Red ~
