No. We have someone in the Ivory Tower in England suggesting that some americans don't get the irony as much as other countries do. I can look through this thread and make a mental note of the americans who either haven't responded and jumped down the throat of the OP and I know for a fact that they are either expats, people who visit the UK regularly, have had relationships with a europeans or have a large collection of monty P.

Also I dont think that its a case of stupid or not, I do think that cultures can have a diferant general humours. It doesnt mean any or either or better/smarter than the other.I dont think its racist' or 'bigoted' to state something that for does often seem very true. I would be unfair to say no americans get it, I know have met some americans with a wonderful sense of irony. However I am never more aware of my self deprication/sarcastic nature than when i am on this site because while on british sites its never misinturpreted on here it very often is by at least one person that side of the pond. I dont think that I even realise how sarcastic I am until I am on here.

DesFip ... I was using humour to post something that is difficult to articulate for myself and for many. If you were sitting in an English pub, in wild weathered yorkshire .. and listening to some trademark Yorkshire honesty (which I do not have - being from the South) ... the person speaking would be firmly taking the piss as they demonstrated introspection ... but something was evidently lost in translation.

Just to show I do take advice ... Here's an emoticon for you

(by "you" I mean anyone reading the entire thread ... not just DesFip)

(that was humour by the way ... in an attempt to lighten the mood and kill the thread)

My take on the OP was that she was addressing the mountain of hate mail received after stating a shift in herself. There then followed a quite witty and obviously sarcy list of whys and wherefores.
I don't know Softness' history of posting and my impression is one gained from here on in.
I don't personally agree with the 'one twue way' mindset, it's different for many people. There are a considerable number on CM locked into inflexible thinking and attitudes, assuming a position of superiority based on how 'hardcore' they are.
