I'm currently attending university for a degree in music, with French Horn as my major instrument. I'm interested to see how many other people here play orchestral and symphonic wind instruments after a particularly good private lesson :) So here's a random poll :D Enjoy! For the purposes of the poll, Piano will count as percussion, and a Harp will count as a string instrument ;)

Another lifetime ago in a galaxy far away....ok, 32 years ago in another state, I aspired to be a high school band director, took the classes for 2-1/2 years until I actually did some student teaching. That's when I decided teaching sucked for me and I went on a different path. My majors were the flute & percussion, minored in voice and choral conducting. I played the cymbals in "Night On Bald Mountain" once....my nipples still involuntarily invert themselves when they hear the opening notes. [8\|] (For anyone not understanding, picture short arms, huge cymbals, and trying to hit a lot of loud, crashing phrases without catching a delicate part.....)

Oh my... I'm going into music ed. I hope that it's the right decision (especially since I'm taking an extra year) but I've already done some practical teaching (of individual lessons) as well as actual teaching of little kids (5th graders) in a classroom setting. Though that's not my age category, I still loved it :) crosses fingers

no but i listen to goth metal music fronted by female opera singers with orchestra and symphonic style metal. actually called:operatic symphonic gothic metal.

I love vocalists :) My favorite female vocal range is Mezzo-Soprano, but I get a kick out of a good Alto, too. :D I've only heard vocalists with an orchestra in a full choir, though... it must be AMAZING to sing in front of one!

[:)] I did have a quarter of teaching a class of 2nd graders, and it was awesome. I really wanted to teach high school...but then when I attempted it, I was really put off by the attitudes, which I know are normal for that age, but I just didn't have the patience it requires. Keep up your good work! (I'm a 2nd alto, too [;)] )

I play theremin. So far, only once with the local symphony. They were doing a concert which included film music from the 1950's... so I was asked to do the bits for both "Spellbound" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still." I believe myself switch, but with a strong submissve preference.... How do you think the two are linked, just out of curiosity?

I played the sax in middle school. Moved onto bass and guitar, & I can drum a little too. I listen to hard/metal rock. Play in hard/metal bands & I'm a sub.
