The McCain's campaign response just came out. They are saying that Palin is vindicated by the result (huh?!) of this enquiry, even though it was led by pro-Obama supporters. What the fuck? I thought the committee was largely Republican, with a Republican prosecutor leading it? Are they even more off their heads than previously thought? I think we should be told.

That cinches it. Palineze is contagious.

Pretty much, yeah.

"A spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign responded by calling the investigation "a partisan-led inquiry" run by supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, but hailing its finding that Monegan's firing broke no law.
"Gov. Palin was cleared of the allegation of an improper firing, which is what this investigation was approved to look into," campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said. "

And even that's a baldfaced lie, but then again what would you expect from the Republicans?

Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.

They have to brass it out, there isn't any other alternative, now.

Further reflection says that Bush could hook a brother up, and find WMD in Iran.

That would go a long way towards saving the bacon.

Yep, they're so dishonourable I'm actually starting to feel a little sorry for them. Now, how perverse is THAT?

Somehow, everyone is getting their knickers in a knot over Sarah Palin firing Mr. Monegan because of the way she was alleged to use her power as Governor solely for personal reasons. In fact, while it might have been a contributing factor to his firing, the Governor was well within her constitutional and statutory rights to fire the gentleman. Sorry guys, but there is no case, no impeachment.  Could be the "October Bombshell" was a dud!

Emphasis added.

It's interesting that the campaign is claiming this when Finding Number One (p. 8) of the Branchflower Report says that Palin "abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act" (emphasis added).

Isn't violating a law the same thing as breaking it?

Twisting the meaning of words can be a great way to manipulate certain outcomes. Won't work there though.

I just cannot WAIT to read how our fellow CM members, the Palin fans try to spin this into a positive.

Have I ever told you how much I enjoy the look of desperate anticipation in a woman's eyes?

Oh Rich honey, your vision is clouded. You are mistaking my sadistic glee for desperation. (that and the silly grin I have after a bottle of wine with my dinner...)

I hate to leave you hanging, LaT (well, not completely true.  Sometimes I love doing that, too.), but I'm not going to try and spin for a positive.  The best spin available for it isn't one I'll endorse, though I'm sure it will crop up somewhere.  Second best is that it is still political because Palin had plenty of enemies in her own party, after bringing down the incumbent in the primary.  I'm sure the loud-mouth Dem saying it would be a nice October Surprise will get some play.

This is a nasty hit for the campaign.  Not quite as bad as having undergone electro-shock therapy, but a legitimate negative.  Let's say, the car isn't totalled, but it has a nasty bash around the back wheel.  24 days out, they are just going to have to hope it will drive straight.

It might look something like this

Hell, Barry could still jump the shark...

I love, I just love the use of the past tense there, Rich. It's a gracious way to bow out of this one: chapeau.
