hey there. I also want to be able to start lactating.
It takes ALOT of dedication, a breast pump and possibly some certain tablets.

From doing some research women can lactate but it requires a great deal of patience, time and dedication.

I suggest the first thing you do is by a breast pump, an electric one is best. You will need to pump your breasts about two times a day for 20mins or so.

Eventually your body should start to produce milk as the pumping confuses it into thinking you have a baby.

This is not a quick process and can take several months.

Well, slightly more than twice a day. More like, every two hours. And milk production is heighest at night, so you're going to want to be pumping then too.

Try LaLecheLeague, though, in all fairness most drugs that will enduce lactation are heavy duty psych ones you don't want to be taking. Amisulpride, for example, raises your prolactin levels, which makes lactation more likely. There are some herbal things that work too, check the search function.

Not if you want to succeed.

Perhaps taking a lesson from those of us who did lactate, as opposed to those who want to, might be more successful?

Every two hours, not twice an hour. It's the normal feeding habit of a newborn baby. They want to eat about every two hours. I have first hand experience with this, as I breast-fed my 6 month old until my body decided it didn't want to produce milk anymore.

Wet nurses never stopped breastfeeding after they had their children. As long as there is stimulation a women will not stop lactating. To start the process from scratch is incredibly difficult and can only be achieved through pregnancy (highly unrecommended just for the kicks of lactating), and the use of drugs that make your body think you need to feed a baby. The process is not a comfortable one and requires daunting amounts of time and attention, it's something that takes enormous dedication and willpower.

I think you perhaps need to do a little more research. There are plenty of people that have started lactating with no drugs and regular suckling.

Perhaps a bit less of the holier than thou attitude and a bit more trying to be helpful would be useful here.

i breast fed both my kids, my baby now being 17yrs old (lol)...and i still have colostrum that i can express manually...body never did figure out to stop producing.

Forgive me, you're correct. It's a far longer process, but it can be done.

Oh goodness. I fought tooth and nail just to get to six weeks. I tried everything: power pumping, using herbal stuff (fenugreek), all in conjunction with regular nursing. Body = fail.

i musta been a wet nurse/wench in another life...i wished that there had been a prenatal unit close by, i could have donated...not bragging.....
and not hijacking....stimulus, stimulate, tug, pull, play

Oh for heavens sake, just google "induced lactation" and you'll find loads of websites on the topic, particularly those for women who want to breastfeed adopted babies.

If you're looking for something a little different, try http://www.landmilkhoney.com/lactation2.htm but it covers the same basic information as the others.

Forced lactation sounds all erotic and stuff, but you're basically inducing lactation, which takes time, dedication and as Ron said, the desire for it to happen. And you will find the result vary from woman to woman based on all sorts of things. Some have quick success, for others it takes longer and more varied techniques (possibly including prescription medications), and still others never succeed. For women who have already lactated, it's generally easier, but not always. In that case, it's called "relactation".

Just know that it will require a lot of your time.
