The original challenge was that simply not voting would somehow improve things. Care to make that case?

These presidential candidates can say they will do whatever they want. They can do very little without the house or senate approving it. No matter which one wins, the senate loses at least one senator and he will be replaced at the next general election in their state which could change the balance of power in the senate. I look at it as do I want the democrats loosing their power base in the senate or do I want the republican power to drop even farther. I agree president Clinton had some great ideas which did not get passed as the people with the money said no. The representatives and senators wanted to be reelected so they voted no to his ideas. Would we have a financial crisis right now if big business did not want to be sure whom they wanted got elected? I doubt it as the individual citizen could not sell off that much stock to make the market take a dive.

Don't know why or how this thread degenerated into a need to defend the simple act of voting....but might I put forth one possible reason.....So you won't look like an asshole when weighing in on political threads.....I do of course know there are much more compelling reasons to exercise ones right to vote....but speaking as someone who views that simple right as more of an obligation of citizenship,it seems silly to have to defend it.

As I said earlier, I know that my vote does not truly count but I will voice my opinion in the box anyway. And do you notice how someone had to turn it partisan? Is it not possible to hold a coversation without bringing up te other party? If not, get medical help soon.
