Aneirin -> Are you true to your thought patterns? (10/12/2008 9:28:11 PM)

I have been wondering about this, this left brain, right brain thinking idea and wondering could it have any bearing on why I am so indecisive in everything. Honestly, it feels as if there is a war going on up there in my noodle, two sides battling away with no winner, and poor old me just trying to get on with things.

So, I have just looked into this thing about which side of the brain is the one I use most and have tried a good few websites with the test on it, and seem to be coming up with the same results on each site. According to these websites, my results put me at roughly half and half , half left and half right brained, so, no dominant side and that would explain the war raging up there most of the time.

One particular site listed the right brain dominant as a submissive  mentality and the left brain dominant as a dominant mentality. This I wondered at, could this be a reason for the dominant and submissive in the openly kinky community, and could it be the reason why I am sub sometimes and dominant at other times, a state all depending on which part of my mind is most active at the time, or simply the mood. Could this be a reason for those of us who label ourselves as switch, or is there more to it than that. What do others think, is this left brain right brain thing a load of crap, or does it have any substance ?

This is hardly the place for a scientific study, but if you were to take that online test, would you be inclined to agree with the results ? Are you what you thought you were ?

The test ;

http://www.wherecreativitygoestoschool.com/vancouver/left_right/rb_test.htm

Also, the results given suggest a likely occupation for each menatility, would you be inclined to agree with these findings or disagree ?

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

Does that mean I'm not a twue submissive, since I am more left brained than right?! Or maybe that just explains why it is so easy for me to switch!

You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.

I always wanted to be a forest ranger.  Apparently, I've wasted my life.  [X(]

Well, Linea.  I suppose I have, too.  LOL.  I don't like anything "woodsy" so forest ranger is out.  I'm also built for comfort, not for speed, so athlete is out.

However, I was a Mary Kay lady for a few years and I still cut my dad's hair with the clipper set, so that could be under the "beautician" category.  I also made my own signs for when I ran for class president in college.  Therefore, I did a stint as an artist.  Does taking wood shop in the 8th grade make me a former craftsman?

I've actually been most of those things, except for the forest ranger, of course *sobs*  I was never a beautician, since my Mom was one & her career advice to me consisted of "Don't be a beautician.  You have to stand on your feet all day & listen to bitchy women."  My Father's career advice was:  "I don't care what you do, just make sure you're having fun.  When it isn't fun anymore, quit & go find something else that is."  I've followed both!

Oh me oh my that's highly amusing.So far I get the lop sided award for the right brained folks. Hell if that were an indicator of subbiness I'm apparently subbier than anyone else. Oh noes! Or maybe it just explains why I seem to come at everything from such an odd angle. Naaaaaaah!

I do think this is mostly accurate for me. As for the occupations, I think most of them fit with the exception of forest ranger. I've always thought that job made more use of logic than creativity, but I could be wrong.
