ORIGINAL: slvemike4u Cory, care to explain the Paine quote, though familiar with the quote since grade school I don't see the connection here. Sure Mike...from my perspective of this current environment and Presidential election, we are going through one of the most trying times in American history since the revolution. The public holds the government in low esteem with around 30% popularity for Bush and almost a "hat sized" 10% for a totally dysfunctional Congress, and the economy and financial system of the country is on the brink of "no one knows what for sure" but it ain't good. Into the mix we we throw in a charismatic, albeit inexperienced politician, who is capitalizing beautifully on the angst of he public and need for "change"...I look at the background of this man and only see two memoirs but not much else in terms of legislative accomplishment. I look at the far left leanings of the man and see the direction of the country with an Obama administration and Pelosi/Reid Congress as a pathway towards the end of an America that offered the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to a a government that has ALL the answers for what is best for us, whethe we want their intrusion into our lives, from healthcare to destroying the mom and pop businesses with a minimum wage that he wants to raise from $7.25 to over $9.00/hour in 2011. Most of the businesses around me are hanging on by a thread, the sharp escallation in the minimum wage has forced me to pay 15 and 16 year old kids, most in their first jobs, money not only not earned because of their lack of experience, but has forced me to raise kids who have worked for me over the past couple of years to $9 and more just in fairness. Obama could care less about the fact that I hired almost a third less kids this year because of the confiscatory impact of what I have been "mandated" to pay kids. The unintended consequences of trying to give aid to people raising families at minimum wage levels, is that people will go out of business, and jobs will disappear. With no track record of accomplishment,, with no meaningful legislation proposed, we are forced to judge this man and his "judgement" importantly on the circle of friends cultivated over the years...felons, terrorists, nutcase Ministers, groups that have an agenda and record of intimidation and fraud to accomplish the "American Dream"... The man has been running for Presidential Office for two years, about half the time of his "first" Senate term...and has never been as vetted for this office by the press as much as Sarah Palin, for example, where within days of her nomination, dozens of reporters were sent up to Alaska to dig, question, interview, and report back on everything this woman has done since puberty. I doubt most of his supporters here have any clue other than the word "change" on the button they wear so proudly just what Obama did in the Illinois Senate...Has anyone seen any investigation, until now? Hopefully, there is still time to peel the onion of this mystery man who would lead us but is mostly known by the speeches given and not his actions taken. “What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be.” Barack Obama...sound familiar? No...quote from Sol Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals".. Mike, This may be the "second coming" for millions of people...for me..these are the times that try mens souls!
