Bound, gagged – and getting angry   Campaigners fed up with the Government’s increasingly puritanical attitudes toward sex, will be out in force next week, as fashion photographer, Ben Westwood, takes a chain of slaves for a walk in central London.   The “chain gang” will include models and activists from the Consenting Adult Action Network (CAAN) and all, apart from Ben, will be bound and gagged in a visual protest against recent government legislation restricting adults’ sexual choices.   Ben Westwood believes the time for action is long overdue.  He said:  “Government gets away with murder when it comes to “legislating about our sexual behaviour, because we are a strait-laced nation and far too many of us are embarrassed talking about sex.   A spokesperson for CAAN added: “Our campaign is not just about individual sexuality:   it is also about people’s livelihoods.  Over the last ten years, government has been intruding ever more actively into what adults may or may not do with other consenting adults in the privacy of their own bedrooms.   “Recent legislation on extreme porn is just one instance of that.  Far more serious are new laws that mean half the workforce could be fired simply for having sexual tastes that are unacceptable to the prudes in power.   “We say: enough is enough.  The fact that Harriet Harman finds something uncomfortable or “icky” is no reason for clamping down on personal freedom.”   If you would like to follow this demonstration, you are invited to join it at its assembly point at 12.40, Tueesday 21 October at Westminster Tube Station.

The country that gave us Benny Hill is a 'straight laced nation'?

Whatever happened to 'what I do in the privacy of my bedroom'? Shoving your sexuality into peoples faces and then screaming 'prude' if they object to your behavior only produces a vicious cycle. Complains that this protest will generate will only be used as ~proof~ of just how much of a puriticinal police state we live in, leading to more 'in your face' public protests, leading to more complains, leading to more 'in your face'.

But what hope is there to argue in favor of privacy rights when wanting to be private gets you labled as 'embarased' about your sexuality? I dont go around in public with a bullhorn screaming out my credit card number, so does that meen I think my credit card information is shameful and embarasing?

Instead of tripping over ourselfs to showcase the wierdest behavior we can muster, how about a bunch of kinksters going out in polo shirts and kachis and passing out informational pamplets to people explaining how we are not a bunch of freaks and wierdos and that we are just normal people like anyone else and that our bedroom activity (our private activity) is nobody elses business?

Er, is that a retorical question? Or are you actualy seeking information? Its sorta tough to explain if you havent been folowing the Longhurst case for the past few years.

Short version : Woman gets murdered. The womans mother starts screaming 'there out to be a law'. When people try and point out there *IS* a law againt murder, the mother dosent listen. She rants and rants and rants and rants untill government finaly passes a tocken-law just to shut her up ..... Now you have 'sexual rights' groups ranting and ranting and ranting that the 'real truth' behind the law was because us poor helpless kinksters are victims of government opression..

People who have already made up their mind that they are being oppressed are likely to find SOMETHING in the law someplace that they can point to and scream 'see, this is proof of how the evil government is forcing itself into out bedroom'

The Max Mosley lawsuit was one of the most positive things that happened to BDSM privacy rights in the past century for any nation on the globe. News of the World was forced to pay out over a half milion pounds in fines for smearing him in public for his sexuality. But instead of folks proudly stating 'the UK stands up for the privacy rights of kinksters' they just ignore the Mosley case totaly and instead point to some assanine wording in a bill (wording that got taken out before it passed into law) and use that as proof of how the UK is a 'straight laced nation'.

To be sure, there are things to be worried about, but the UK is hardly a puriticinal police state. Shoving our sexuality into peoples faces like this protest plans on doing is only going to reinforce the negative steriotype that kinksters are 'wierd and difrent'

I have noticed it a lot recently what with the law about images and al that rubbish people getting their knickers in a twist over nothing. At the end of the day technicially what we do is illigal but so techinically is eating a mince pie on christmas day.

I dont think we are a straight laced nation, i dont think we ever have been, I do think however that as you say forcing it in other peoples faces isnt how its done nor how it should be done. I think stuff like that will misrepresent a large proportion of people who identify with the lifestyle, I find that actually talking to people about it is a far better way to gain understanding than by bitching and moaning about how 'no one understands us'. i personally dont want to be linked to a demonstation like this in any way, I find it annoying that people assume that its helping us and taking the decsion out of everyone elses hands because they want to cause a public spectal.

Depends on your point of view, I identify as Bi and personally I wouldnt want to be associated with those marches either. I prefer that I define what I am to the peopl I care about rather than ascribe to a group of people who tell others what I am because i use a label

You see - this is how I view those marches too; and I get a lot of stick for it.

But then I live stealth, live successfully, am accepted by family and so on - so maybe I think, its just me and such marches are important for those not so fortunate in their fight for rights?

It reminds me of ricky gervais in politics talking about the gay marches for reducing the age to 16, oh its so wonderful, i mean to be fair there werent many 16 year olds on the march, Sometimes other people think its their responsibility to demand things without actually knowing what other people want.

I agree that there are those who arent as lucky, but how can others then decide what they need? Im pretty sure that a fetish photographer is doing ok in his battle

We may have given the world Benny Hill, but it is worth remembering that the PC brigade effectively killed off the Benny Hill show as its content was seen as sexist. The UK in generally has been becoming more and more intolerant towards anything that is beyond engaging sex in the missionary position.
 
We have a government that is hell bent on keeping the Wapping mafia happy (The Sun, News of the Screws etc) with lots of knee jerk legislation, such as sections 62-67 of the CJIA 2008. It is more than just kinksters being targetted, any politician worth their salt will know it is easy to get good publicity and votes out of attacking any thing that is seen as deviant sexually. Though having said that Jacqui Smith royally balls up the spin over the return of Paul Gadd! Then again, only a NuLabour politician could manage that.
 
There is a cabal of "thinkers" who have the governments ear including a number of extremist feminists who assisted in the drafting of the CJIA who believe that any activity that involves striking a woman, even if it is consensual is abuse. This is not conjecture, it is a matter of record. Whilst these puritans are being listened to we kinksters are now being actively targetted. We already have a couple "psychologists" trying to equate violent porn with the slippery road to rape and paedophilia, and a couple of senior police chiefs have started to express the same views publically.
 
We have seen a number of BDSM venues including a "school" raided by the police claiming they are raiding brothels and this is becoming more frequent. The problem now is that HMG can do little else to our recognised sex offenders in terms of restrictions as much of the current legilsation is borderline on breaching the Human Rights act. Infact rumours circulate that Paul Gadd is going to challenge his travel ban and I suspect as his reputation is already destroyed he has nothing to lose. If he wins which a lot of Human Rights law experts believe he has a good chance of at the ECHR then it will seriously damage NewLabour.
 
So who's next on the list after the rapists and child sex absuers can no longer be legislated against? It is easy to see it will be BDSMers and though I do not believe we are currently being directly targetted, the HMG spin machine is already slowly sowing the seeds ready for action if required.
 
Personally I would prefer to see a mixture of suits and fetsih wear handing out the leaflets and campaigning rather than all one or the other. That way it wil impact on those who see the protests and send the message that we are normal human beings and not sex fiends who should be feared.

Who the hecks going to be charged? It would be very hard for anyone engaging in consentual BDSM to get any legislation written against them, there is bog all to be done about what people get up to in their own homes. Sure they may crack down on public venues but i wouldnt have thought so and even if they did who really cares it wont stop private relationships.

It is a criminal offence to solicit an offence. It is also impossible to consent to an offence.

If they want to crucify you, they can and will - regardless of witness testimony; a witness refusing to testify or giving false testimony is in contempt of court.

But I think its unlikely all in all - all it needs is for the first pro-domme to release the names of the high court judges, MPs etc in her client book and they will shut up mightily quickly.

Well, in truth its irrelevant anyway. Just being on this site could be enough grounds for arrest on suspicion of somethingorotherwe'llmakeourmindsupaboutwhenwe'veseenyourharddrive, if they want.

As for me, I shall be singing like a canary if it happens to me, but then I have names and dates that might be useful in deterring action.
