Conservative in Canada is a lot different in the US and government is a lot different than the US. In our system, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government are separated. In Canada, there is a separated judicial branch but the Executive branch of government is created by the legislature. So Harper's government will be a minority government that can only stand as long as the government can rely on the other parties in Parliament to not call for a no confidence vote over issues that are not winnable. Conservatives have secured 143 of the 308 seats in the House of Commons, a gain of 16 seats The Liberal party lost the most, as they appeared to call for increases in taxes in a year when there was an economic meltdown. In this situation, they will probably won't overreach like the neoconservatives did under Bush.
