It seems that following the agreement reached last weekend between our high street banks and the government for the government (that is, the taxpayer), to spend £37 billion on buying up shares in these banks - the bankers now want to renegotiate, get this -

because they didnt understand the agreement.

These wankers (forgive my French) get paid a f'in fortune on the basis that they're a right clever bunch of nelly knowitalls on finance at the highest level.

So, they have now not only demonstrated through getting us into this mess that they didnt understand what they were doing - yet they insist it wasnt their fault - but then demonstrate for a second time that they dont understand what theyre doing!

I have a very complex Value Added Tax return to complete this week - complex because its in two currencies with EU "reverse charge" VAT, two currencies at "VAT exempt rate" and two currencies with UK VAT. If I make one mistake, I get a fine, disqualification as a company director and a gaol sentence. Saying "sorry I didnt understand" is no defence whatever.

Seems to me that I should do just as good a job as these million quid a year public schoolboys running the banks - but I must not get above my station. "Good Lord Carruthers - she doesnt even have a university degree dontchaknow? Went to a (chuckle) state comprehensive!"

Executions will start at midnight. Machine guns shall chatter throughout the Surrey nightscape. Then we'll talk.

Banking was brought to Europe by the knights templar during the crusades.
Can you hear their armour as they spin in their graves?

I thought the Templars were burned at the stake by the Catholic Church? Not much left to spin, even if they have graves?

Incineration hmmmm. Maybe we'll cancel the machine guns.......

Nothing like a good bonfire to expiate evil this time of year

Yes it is getting a bit nippy out no ? Also I agree, never shoot the people you are going to burn, it's simply counterproductive.

Both of you are essentially correct about the Templars.

There was a coordinated action against them by the Vatican and the king of France, largely due to both of them owing so much money to the Templars. Being a coin changer has always been profitable. The action was coordinated across Europe and took place in many locales on the same day, and at the same hour. Templars were captured, tortured, killed, assets seized, etc. Jaques de Molay, the Templar leader (perhaps Grand Master) was eventually burned at the stake.

That day was Friday the 13th (I think the year was 1307 and the month was October - I could easily be wrong about that as memory does fail on some details). It is from that day that our fear of Friday the 13th derives, known as triskidecaphobia (sp).

There are many different views and theories as to what happened to the surviving Templars. One has them in Scotland, eventually aiding William Wallace. Another has them becoming explorers and settling in distant lands. Another has them associated with Columbus (the sails of his 3 ships had Templar crosses on the sails). There others. Enough nuggets of truth to all of them to raise eyebrows.

Dan Brown's book "The Divinci Code" seems to have been based on another book, "Holy Blood, Holy Grail," and that book (by Lincoln, Baigent and Lee) started as a book about the Templars.
