The facts are these: 1) Joe the Plumber approaches Obama, saying, "I'm gonna buy my boss' business, and it's gonna make over $250,000... under your tax plan, I'm gonna end up paying more, aren't I?" (BTW, the answer was no... but we can discuss that elsewhere.) 2) John McCain sees tape of this exchange and decides to make it a focal point of the final debate. Mentioning Joe 22 to 24 times. (sources vary for some reason) Again, the answer to the question was" "No, Joe will not be paying more." Nor will he pay any "fine" in employer supplied health insurance. 3) The media, being the wonderful little gophers they are, start digging. Ta-da! Joe only earns maybe $40,000 a year, and doesn't qualify for a business loan. The whole subject of his buying his boss' business is some kind of fantasy cooked up by Joe to try and put Obama on the spot in his first encounter. So, Joe not only is "made of fail" when it came to his initial encounter, he's also inadvertantly hit McCain in the face with a cream pie, because McCain took him at his word that his purchase of the buisness, and his eventually having employees, was a real possibility. It was a real "Being There" Chauncey Gardenier moment. Still, his attempt at pulling a "gotcha" with Obama has tossed another log on the burning bonfire of the republican campaign. Thanks, Joe!
