Ah but Lady H, Denver has mountains!  And those are quite special in their own right.

Big deal.  Most of the women who post on these boards have mountains, too, *and* we don't have to travel to see them.

I would not dream of contradicting you Venatrix.

Hello All,

I got to Eugene Wa. once.  There is a BIG... no, BIG building at the airport.  I think they make jets there.

As for Portland,  a forest fire chased me out of Columbia Gorge once.  (F.Y.I. Sea, if you read this, I was complaining at the time but I brag about it now.)  Rooster Rock State Park makes a great camp but you might want to cover the kids eyes.  Multnoma Falls and the lodge there look to be one of the most romantic places in North America .  I hope to go back and find out some day.

I have noticed that Portland seems to make all of those hip lists nowadays (10 Greenest, 25 Healthiest, 47 Peachy Keenest).

As for the scene, I can't say; but, I'l bet it beats the Midwest hands down.

Respectfully,
Mike

I think you'd lose that bet.

The kinky scene and community in Minneapolis/St Paul is absolutely wonderful.  There's a lot going on here - there are 3-4 events of some kind every week.  And the people are fabulous.  There are a lot of different groups, so anyone who comes here can find a group that they feel is a good fit for them.  It also means that there's variety in the events.  It's not the same party over and over again.  The groups don't compete with each other.  Most people belong to several groups, and the groups share space and equipment and often team up to host larger events.  All of our community leaders are volunteers, and the "many smaller groups" structure means that these folks aren't as likely to get burnt out.  They also aren't as likely to get weird about their status as "community leaders".  Around here, there are a lot of those.  I don't know how the market is for prodoms, but I have friends here who are prodoms who do well enough to have nice homes with yards and nice professional space.

We don't have an ocean, but Lake Superior is only a couple of hours away (it's a pretty drive up there) and there are a bunch of lakes and the Mississippi River in the cities themselves.  There's a flourishing arts scene, plenty of sports if one is into that, lots of good food, good entertainment.  Folks who come to Mpls/St Paul from other big cities are always impressed with how much there is to do and how clean the place is.  The cost of living is pretty reasonable as big cities go.

I'd suggest that any kinkyfolk who want to relocate take a look at Mpls/St Paul.

Eugene is in northern Oregon.  You are probably thinking of the Boeing airplane factory in Everett, which is supposedly the largest building by volume in the world.

Honestly, CW, the pro dominant business has to be pretty bad all over, with the economy being what it is. I would dearly love to go back to it, but in metro Detroit, it's not likely to provide much income, since I don't do blow jobs...

I am not so worried about the business in terms of money, so much as climate. Here in NYC, Pros have been the targets of harassment and unjust arrests. Many houses have been shut down.

After 25 years, I'm finally over New York.
My boy and I agree that the West coast would be a welcome change. We were thinking about either Portland or Seattle. Anyone live in (or used to live in) either city?

What's the scene like over there (Lifestyle-wise, Pro-wise?)
Are there any stores that I should not miss on my upcoming trip?
Do you find that vanilla people look at you weird if you hit the street with a crop in your hand or slightly fetish-y clothing?

Couldn't tell you about the kink scene in Seattle...I'm never here long enough to gauge it...but as to a city....I hit about 30 cities a year and this is the singularly best place in America.

It doesn't rain here "every day" (there are always 3 days in August that are just fucking gorgeous).

There's more money than trees around here...home of Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks...so, if you can't get a buzz here from the coffee....you can hop a Boeing plane from here to anywhere....and when you get there...with your laptop...you'll be the most efficient person in the airport.

Portland's nice too.

(But it doesn't have me).

Food critics tend to say that Portland has better restaurants, though there is better Indian food in Seattle.

Everything around here was named after Indians.

(Yeah, yeah, yeah....I know!!!!!)

I live in the Seattle area and love it. I have lived here for about 13 years and find that the weather really isnt so bad, the people are VERY open and mostly liberal and yes, you can walk down the street with a crop and your slave on a leash and not get much notice. The stores are limited, but okay, most to do not cater to the BDSM lifestyle, but have a few things of interest once in a while. The Crypt and Babeland have a few items but the best I have found so far is actually in Ballard, and it is called Wild At Heart. The WetSpot is still very much alive and has quite a gathering on Thursdays and Saturdays. I hope this helps.

I would gladly send you a ticket, however, as a single man, 62% of my personal income is spent on hand cream, and it seems to be having an effect on my spending.
