I had read that my county (Arapahoe County in Colorado) was one of the most pro-McCain/Palin counties in the country.  I counted yard signs when out driving and found them to be 70% for McCain and 30% for Obama (I saw ten),

This isn't an exact way to determine support, but what the heck.

Please post your county/state and the percent of yard signs for each candidate.

Arapahoe County, CO 70% McCain, 30% Obama

40% of accidents are caused by people reading political yard signs and the other 60% is caused by cute little tortoises walking across the road startling the motorists. If that elderly man McCain had been crossing the road in front of you he wouldn't have stood a chance now would he? What do you have to say for yourself you hoon?

Yeah... there's a puzzler for you - Obama has raised record amounts of cash - while we're in the middle of another "Great Depression"?   [sm=lol.gif]

Clever of him, isn't it? It's spot-on marketing techniques like that that have enabled Obama to garner a massive war chest the size of a small country :-) . Kudos to him for adapting the spirit of capitalism to his electoral message.

McCain is slammed for having money and Obama is praised for having a war chest the size of a small country.

God, I love the USA.

Oh, oh! I got a puzzler, too. How is it that a guy that went so hog wild spending in the beginning of his campaign that he ran out of money during the primaries, had to resort to couch class plane tickets and getting rid of his slick bus, has dubious ethical standards as evidenced by Keating (which, gasp, involved $!) and yet is the same guy that so many folks want to turn their money over to now? On the other hand, a guy that has proven he knows how to generate money, spends wisely and well, has built a grassroots campaign that generated dollars unsurpassed by any previous grassroots candidate (possibly any candidate at all.. I'd have to do the research for that one though) in any Presidential election and he's the guy that no one trusts with a dollar?

Yup, puzzler for sure.

How is it that a guy that went so hog wild spending in the beginning of his campaign that he ran out of money during the primaries, admits he doesn't know anything about the economy except that if people keep talking about it he'll lose, had to resort to couch class plane tickets and getting rid of his slick bus, has dubious ethical standards as evidenced by Keating (which, gasp, involved $!) and yet is the same guy that so many folks want to turn their money over to now?

Having just returned from a cross country trip to Reno, Nevada and back with a few stops along the way I'd say it's  2 to 1 for McCain.

Raechard -> RE: Obama vs McCain - yard signs (10/18/2008 1:44:45 PM)

I've been driving all across the US via Google earth and I see giant Obama signs everywhere. Nur Nur as they say.[8|]

Marc2b -> RE: Obama vs McCain - yard signs (10/18/2008 2:43:53 PM)

I can’t speak for the whole of New York State but in the places where I live and play (the Niagara Frontier and the Southern Tier), signs for the Presidential candidates are, if not rare, uncommon.  I suspect that this is because the outcome of New York as an Obama state is already known.  Now that I think about it, the last time I saw a lot of signs for Presidential candidates was during both of Reagan’s elections.  Most of the signs were for Reagan and he in fact took New York in both elections.

There are lots of signs around, but they are mostly for local candidates.  In those, Republican signs greatly outnumber the Democrat signs except in the large cities.

People talk about Red States and Blue States but the great divide between Americans can best (and I’m talking in the most general sense here) be summed up as urban versus rural.  Generally speaking, the more urban, the more Democrat and the more rural, the more Republican.  I am fairly certain that if New York City was booted out of the state, New York would be a reliable Republican State.

If you want an interesting look at the Red/Blue divide, check out these maps.

As for the defacing of signs, come on people and admit it – each side has it’s nutjobs that do that kind of stupid shit, and let’s call it for what it is – a lack of respect for the rights of others.

Just out of curiosity, who decided that Democrats were the Blues and Republicans were the Reds?  If you think about it, shouldn’t the side with the socialists and the communist be the Reds?  Just wondering.

Marc,

Um, the republicans, headed by the Bush Administration, just nationalized the banking system on a level the Dems would never had dared to dream of. Before that, Bush pissed away hundreds of billions in budget surpluses....Not to mention that the GOP is the "hawk" party, wanting to wage war on anyone and anything that crosses it's path. They are the party of the Knights Templar these days, wanting to fight a "holy crusade" in the middle east. (Bush's actual words.) Expansion by conversion at the point of a sword... seems to me that was how the Czars started out.

Take a wild guess?

General Reply -

One thing you can say about yard signs, the local neighborhood dogs will heist their legs to piss on each and every one of them.  Doggy democracy in action.

Maybe the dogs are trying to tell us something and we're just not listening.

Well, they stick their noses up each other's butts.  Should that be a new human form of greeting?  Works mighty well on Wall Street.
