What did you do with all the paper work your dead pet accumulated?

Status: offline 		You know, all those files and reciepts and paper work and billing info you may have saved from everytime your pet incured a vet bill or got vaccinated.

I'm going to save his adoption papers, and the rest I don't know what I am going to do with. I guess they can stay in the filing cabnit where they've been the past several years an years.

Status: offline 		Ideally these documents should be shredded to avoid criminals assuming the identity of your dead pets.

Status: offline 		I don't think there's any sensitive information, they do have his age and his breed and his weight an stuff listed an the cost of everything they did for him, but no cc numbers or anything. All though, if you have a fireplace you can burn the papers, not for sensitivity reasons, but cause it'd make great kindling, and the ashes can help the garden, which would be one more way your pet contributed to your life. even in the end.

You might want to wait a bit before deciding what to do with it all. We don't always make the best decisions when grief is raw.

Status: offline 		It's obvious you don't want to part with this stuff.  It wouldn't be meaningful to me, but it may help you get some closure and it's a way to remember your pet.

Possessions own you, the only memories you need are those you'll always have in your head. I find photo albums and home video of dead relatives so depressing and it sometimes adjusts the memories in our heads that should have remained untouched.

and before any new additions to the family,, first I want to go to kink in the carribian next year get a new camera and a flat bed scanner and afford wood for 3 wood projects first:))

My of my pets have a file..

Everything they have gone through from cradle to grave.  I put their collar in their folder with a tag I make from Pet Smart with their name/birth date/date of death and their name. When I miss them, I take it out and see their life and the part I played in it... and the part they played in mine.  I think making a shadow box of their momentos would be a wonderful tribute :)

I can live without anything except my dogs.
I think they are the purest sort of love I've ever had.
I have lots of single shoes and holey socks, and gnawed doors to prove it.
I can tell you the name of every dog I've ever had, and only half the women.
No one else wants you when your sad
You can say anything you like to a dog, as long as you have bacon.
My main dog serves as a book rest for reading in the bathroom, find me a human that will do that. better still - don't.
And they are always ready to lend their lead to a collared woman.

Status: offline 		that is a good question.  which papers to save.   the trouble with too many papers- is one then can not locate the important papers.   yet if one throws out everything then one doesnt have relevant papers.

they could come in handy if you ever have to prove you provided a good home. say a shelter or person is giving away a dog- but want re-assurance.. in that case the papers would be helpful.

Make an extra copy. I wouldn't put them in the fireplace because an ember could come up and start a fire i was told.

We have been through the same anguish with five great animal members of our family.  Initially we kept all those papers but as time went on it's just the pictures on the desk and walls that we kept.  We have all their ashes and will probably bury them in  a corner of the yard someday...but they are in the house still.  In the interim, there's no rush to do anything.
