By the year 2013, McCains plan will reduce the number of uninsured by 6 million. It is projected that number will then start to rise as the tax credit will fail to keep pace with the cost of premiums, leaving approx 68 million without insurance by the year 2018

By the year 2013, Obamas plan will reduce the number of uninsured by 18 million. It is projected that the number of uninsured will decrease by 34 million but will still call for 34 million uninsured Americans by 2018 although virtually all children will be covered.

It is projected that McCains tax plan will increase the deficit by $7.373 trillion dollars (plus the $2.3 trillion CBO baseline by the year 2018)

It is projected that Obamas tax plan will increase the deficit by $5.867 trillion dollars by the year 2018

McCain's freeze on non-essential discretionary spending will offset $.018 trillion dollars ($18 billion dollars) of the increase for a net increase of $7.365 trillion dollars to the deficit

Obamas spending programs will increase the deficit by an additonal $1.1 trillion dollars for a net increase to the budget deficit of $6.967 trillion dollars

Onwards and upwards! By law, the current deficit is capped at $11.313 trillion dollars. The aforementioned increases are going to add to the current deficit. In other words, those numbers don't reflect what the deficit will be. You have to do a little basic addition to get to those numbers and, they're big. Really big.

Oh yes. In fact, just today, I took Himself to the airport so he could do a training seminar for his new company in Portugal, sign off on all the contracts for IDIICT and secure our residence. One of our criteria was the availability of an Internet connection. Now, I don't know if that will be dial up or what have you, but we'll be getting online as soon as possible after we move. :)

When you combine the entire worlds military spending, the US accounts for 48%. Europe is second with 20%. I don't think I'd advocate cutting it in half. We don't have enough friends in the event of an emergency and I wouldn't want us to leave ourselves open to attacks later on because we cheaped out now, but certainly we could reduce by a good 20 or 30% and still be within a margin of error should we continue to make enemies and fail to influence people. Gotta love diplomacy .. or, er.. the lack thereof!

One of the ways to reduce would be to abolish no-bid contracts then we can get more for less instead of less for more. ::looks around:: I know, I know.. the government sort of denies no-bid contracts, but.. we all know differently don't we. Honeywell posted a 3rd quarter profit this year. Ya gotta wonder how they hell they were able to do that given the state of the economy. Just sayin.'

We need to make sure that we arm our troops appropriately and give them the resources to defend themselves with things like quality armor and equipment which doesn't malfunction. No one should be getting rich by being a government contractor. I want our troops to have what they need out in the field but if we can the same quality products for less money, then that's what we should be doing .. and it shouldn't matter who the hell your friends are in Congress (or the White House) when it comes to appropriations.

Status: offline 		Yes, please do keep us learning and seeking and questioning from Lisbon.  You would make an excellent college professor by the way.  Are you going to be taking lessons in Portuguese?  It is not that hard to learn if you already know another Latin language.

Thank you! I actually spent the summer learning conversational Portuguese and even got to utilize it when we took our trip. Himself and I will both be taking advanced classes once we make the move sometime at the end of this year or early next year depending on when our residency visa's come through.

Status: offline 		This is why I simply can't, even though I do favor slightly Obama over McCain, vote for either, they simply will keep racking it up, until the whole thing collapses, and no one has insurance, or much more important things.

Oh, well, hopefully, I can get uber lucky at some point and get 20 million, convert it all to some semi stable currency and abandon this country. It is literally committing suicide, I don't want to watch that, and no one is really trying to stop it either, according to the OP numbers, and the voters simply will not elect anyone ever that tells them they don't deserve everything, and they are wonderful angels floating in the corner of heaven named the US.

Status: offline 		Do away with military spending.  We obviously cannot afford this war.  It is costings tons each day.
Better medical care for everyone regardless of their situation.  Need to put limits on what hospitals and doctors can charge for life threatening illnesses.   For example, my grandfather had prostate cancer.   The doctor would bill him on days that he did not go to the doctor.   Reduce waste in hospitals and nursing homes.
Education.   Make schools go to a four day work week.  That would save a ton in gas for school busses.   It would also reduce the operation costs of schools substationally.   Do away with busses.   Sounds harsh, but we are not responsible for getting all of these children to school.
Vote for Barack Obama for change.   We need new blood in office.  Do not be fooled by that corrupt, John McCain.

David Walker, who resigned as Comptroller of the Currency, has been most prescient in his vision of the monetary risks facing the U.S. He has been warning for the past several yaers about “increasing entitlement benefits” – with unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare now estimated at $53 trillion--could trigger a tsunami of debt--and whopping tax increases--could drown our economic future.

While I have heard him on a couple of talk shows and one TV how, this man well reasoned views based on years of experience are  not given enough media attention...CNN, MSNBC and all the other major radio and TV media should have this guy on a "special"...but I guess his talking points are too complicated to fit in between commercials.  I think the OP summarized the bottom line of this issue..."...and we are"...withhout lube!
