John McCain's campaign people seem to that Colin Powell is going to endorse Obama this morning while he is on Meet the Press.

If he does, Do you think that dims McCain's chances?

Well, I don't think his chances are exactly bright regardless. I look forward to reading the words of a few of our republican posters that were expousing the virtues of Colin Powell the other day. I am sure it will be amusing, watching them spin, again.

When I ask someone whether they are voting for Obamma often I receive a negative with the added statement "because he is black."  I then  ask whether they would vote for Colin Powell and invariably they say yes.  Then they laugh and add "but he is not black."  The man transcends race and most feel he was badly treated by Bush.

I can't wait to see how they try and spin this.  He has some rather harsh words for the republican party.

He is a very impressive human being. I had the wonderful honour of meeting him. My hope is that he has a position waiting for him on Obama's staff.

Dim McCain`s chances? No,they can`t get much dimmer.

But a Powell endorsement would help McCain,for sure.

That the McCainites think Obama`s getting the endo,probably means that he will get it.They wouldn`t say such a thing if they thought McCain was getting it.

Campaigns are usually told in advance, what the endorsement will be.

Where are the Palin supporters now?  I would like to hear their spin on things now that Powell  called her not ready for the position and questioned McCain's judgment for selecting her.

He had a lot of harsh things to say about the republican party.

Colin WAS a truly great man.  He sold his soul to the devil in the current administration.  His moral compass finally led him to resign, but not before the absolute lowest point in his career on 2/5/03 when he addressed the UN and said there was solid well-researched evidence of WMD's in Iraq.  He knew it was BS and said it anyway...  Very sad.


Harry Belafonte, a man I completely admire, referred to Powell as "Bush's houseboy"

Most of the folks I know truly believe that Colin Powell was giving a raw deal and used as a scapegoat for Iraq. I have a great deal of respect for him and would have enjoyed seeing him run for office. Obviously, I'm pleased that he endorsed Obama and I'm not really surprised. The way he was treated, hell, I wouldn't vote for a pub ticket either if I were him.

I don't, however, think it will effect the election. To be honest, as much as I read and research, I have paid very little attention to who endorses whom. To me, it just doesn't matter. It's probably not going to matter to most undecideds at this point either and it's not going to change the minds of those who are decided. Non-issue .. but still nice to see.

Lucy, thank you so very much for sharing that link!! I loved what he had to say and how he said it. I have so much admiration for this man.

I especially adored what he said about being muslim and the american soldier. I hope it makes some people back up, shut up, and think.

I like you did my own research and came to my own conclusion.  I will certainly be voting for Obama.    Still I do believe their is a portion of the more moderate voters and independents who could be convinced that it is actually ok to vote for Obama.  Especially if the listen to the things Powell said even more than the endorsement.

This is one of those cases where I'd like to be really, really wrong.

Oh, LaT.. the story that Colin Powell told about the pictorial touched me as well and made me a little sad. It reminded me of the RNC convention in which one of our own was put on display and hearalded as the hero he is .. one of our best and most courageous and all that went through my mind as I watched it and cried is that I'd much rather have these great kids, great Americans alive and well and contributing in positive ways to our society .. instead of buried because of Bush's senseless, reasonless war.

Raw deal or not.  He didn't have to speak at the UN and make assertions that he knew to be false.  He could have resigned.

All true.

I believe Powell was duped,like many others in high office.

This is the start of his rehabilitation.

Given that Powell is a retired career military man, and given that I live with a retired career military man, I fully understand why Powell did what he did. Like many of our  military personel, Powell got shit on by GW.

There was one time I would have voted for Powell back before George Bush. I know that he still has a lot of capital with some people, but I do not know how he could have went to the United Nations with cherry picked evidence that was completely unbelievable.

I believe he had great doubts about WMD when he presented the case to invade Iraq to the world, and he never said a word about it in all these years. To him I suppose you fall on the sword for your commander in chief no matter what a dishonorable lying greedy sac of shit he may be. Powell is a military man, and that culture says that you bow to your commander in chief. This showed him to be completely unqualified to be a Sec of State or president for that matter. We need people in those positions that are not "yes men", Powell is a "yes man".

I went from admiration of Powell to utter disappointment over the last 8 years. I would like to see this endorsement as a signal he feels badly about his choices over the last 8 years, but since he gave money to McCain before he changed his mind over the last few months it is very hard for me to believe that he considers lying to the world about WMD was wrong, even if he did not know for a fact that he was lying at the time. In the eyes of the world he lost all his political capital when he presented his case at the UN. There is a good reason for this, if you watched him, as I did, you would see that at times he seemed dubious about what he was saying. It is why the world rejected his words.

All those young men and women have bled and died, and yes I hold Colin Powell partially responsible for that. Sadly so.
