I am not given to watching television, but I do have a "soap opera" that I am partial to, and that is General Hospital. Now I have noticed, being Lifestyle, that everyone once in a while, movie makers, and television writers, will slide a little BDSM into their scripts. In "Rebel Without A Cause" Jim Baccus (sp?) was wearing an apron and saying "Yes, Dear" very respectfully, and his distress when he dropped the tray of food on the upstairs landing, "OH NO!!!" and had to clean it up before She found out.

We see these things all the time, and for those who actually watch movies, and television more than I do, I'm sure you can cite more instances, however...today, when I turned on General Hospital the show preceeding it was still on. What did I see? David saying something to Dorian (his "older" fiance') that she didn't like. Her response was to smack him on the ass repeatedly saying, "Bad Boy!" as the camera faded out.

I love it!

Most of the United States dabbles in Bondage at some point in their relationships. I don't know why people don't realize it is normal behavior yet. Give it another 20 or so years.

Saw a movie last night: "Before Sunset". It's an indy film. The main female character was talking about interviewing a new lover. "I'm not really into SM, but a good spanking once in a while wouldn't hurt" was the quote. It's out there, but I don't see acceptance rising. It's been a lot of years since 9 1/2 weeks shocked everyone. The general acceptance of the subject is about the same now as it was then.

I don't think most people consider spanking as part of bdsm. It seems to be another kind of foreplay nowadays. When most people think of bdsm, they still see whips and chains and dungeons, etc.
It is funny how 9 1/2 weeks was advertised as shocking. Most of it was pretty boring. Even with a hot Kim Basinger in it.

I didn't see 9 1/2 Weeks, and haven't really heard a lot about it, but wasn't there one with Micky Rourke as well?

Re the spanking in daytime soaps, it may not be considered BDSM by Lifestylers per se, however I believe it would be viewed as such by several thousand viewers watching (whatever program), and it is making its debut into the "average" American home on "PrimeTime Television". Not to mention the fact that a few pre-schoolers are watching that too. [;)]

Mickey Rourke was in 9 1/2 weeks, iirc. He was also in a very similar film called "Wild Orchid" or something along those lines.

Well i have found more and more references to the what i would deam kinky side of the bed being potrayed on tv shows. It is amusing and i like to see it coming up in every day shows, it shows more open mindedness than we have seen on the past. I think a lot of people are into bondage and spanking then are willing to admit. And i just like it when something pops up on tv about it, it about makes me howl!

Did anybody happen to see the episode of "The Family Guy" where they were trying to do away with kids at HS doing "toad"?

Near the end, it showed the mother dressed in leather with a bustier, etc, and the father with a zippered hood and leather vest, etc. She unzipped his hood and said "the safeword is banana". Even had dildoes and such on the bed- or something to that effect.

Even after seeing that episode enough times to KNOW its coming, it still cracks Me up. LMAO[:D]

Brenda on this season of Six Feet Under (episode 43 "Can I Come Up Now) has a D/s relationship with her boyfriend and we have a scene where she has him tied to the bed and swating him with a strap. She is also humiliating him verbally.

Then again, this show is always pushing boundaries. Kind of why it's my favorite show on TV these days.

Has anyone noticed (besides me) that every example given so far for TV is fem dom? I wonder if male dom is considered more of a taboo by TV folks concerned about a feminist backlash. The wife with the bustier and the whip with hubby in a gimp mask is just funny. Hubby with a whip standing over wifey cuffed and kneeling might send some eyebrows sky high.

I think to many the idea of a man striking a woman is abuse but a woman striking a man is kink in the general populus eyes. Perhaps just my take on their actions.

The only BDSM mainstream movie that I can think of is "Exit to Eden". It was done rather lightheartedly, and of course the island Mistress had to fall in love with the leading man (submissive). Who of course had to rescue her from the bad guys. My favorite line from the movie was when a male slave asked Rosy O'Donnell what can I do for you? Her reply"paint my house" and in the end he does. I thought of two more, laughing. In the movie "Porkies" the original one, there is a scene where the female gym teacher is dressed in leather and is using a toy on the skinny little male that also works at the school, too many years ago, can't remember her real name, but the teens called her "Ballbreaker". The other one is at the end of the movie "Grease", Olivia Newton-John came out in a really hot leather outfit. Sundew
