Status: offline 		Earlier this evening myself and my pal were talking about the history of design and somewhere in the conversation it got onto human design and there the comparison between male and female forms. The female form is all sort of protected, anything of importance is inside, but the male, the most vulnerable parts and perhaps the most important as to the furtherment of our species  is outside the body and there very vulnerable to all kinds of dangers. The conversation went, that if mankind was designed by a greater entity, then man as in male, must have been either a prototype or a design disaster.

Like, what sort of designer would design such a superb device as a human being and leave the important parts outside the protection of the body, the male genitalia, the testes, they being outside because inside the heat of the body would hinder that all important  process that was important to the species. One cannot help but think that idea putting the goolies outside was the design fuck up, a case of oops, we forgot about that, which begs the question, was the law of life written before the design of us, the external parts even becoming an afterthought, or even a compromise made by a bad designer.

Now, my pals are weird like me, we got onto thinking how the design could be improved and came up with all sorts of ideas, some of them logical and sensical, but others just plain stupid, so I wonder if anyone else has pondered the design of us.

So, the question, male or female, if you were able to improve on the design of the human body, what would you incorporate and what would you leave out ?

Another thing also seems certain about the design, and no less a shortcoming. The female will stop at nothing to find faults and flaws in the male.

Status: offline 		It's not like she has to look hard for the faults either: as Aneirin correctly noted, man's faults and flaws are dangling outside, all the better for her to see.

Status: offline 		I would design the eyeball so that it was mounted on the end of a foot-long tentacle, so that we could just walk around all day with our eyeballs bobbing around on the ends of tentacles, peeking around corners, stuff like that. Not because I think it would suit any particular purpose, mind you. I just think it would be kind of cool.

Status: offline 		I could totally go for the stalk-mounted eyes.

Personally, I could really use an extra pair of arms, mounted right below the existing ones.  It would make bondage more complicated, but out in the real world (ugh) there are innumerable times that I've wished I had them.

Status: offline 		OK, seriously, I would design it to heal completely from any injury, like that girl on "Heroes". Think of what extreme edge play would be like if we didn't have to worry about permanent damage.

Status: offline 		There are a whole bunch of "design" flaws with humans extending well beyond the need for air conditioned testes.

The windpipe and esophagus cross over in the neck. The blindpsot proeduced by the how the optic nerve attaches to the eye. The arched foot. The entire vertabral column.

I always thought a man’s inability to hear high pitched shrieking was a highly evolved design to cut out unnecessary noise and instead concentrate on the meaningful information.

Status: offline 		I'd like ears that can swivel, like cats or horses, for instance.  also that muscle control that horses have the lets them just twitch a specific muscle when flies land on them?

Well, that idea came up in our conversation, a bit like what a slug does, and other creatures. In fact, slugs are hermaphrodite.
