It's Sunday afternoon. I'm in a juice bar staffed by Arabs with a queue of mainly men behind me.

It gets to my turn. 'Do you have something with erotic fruit?' I ask.

The banter in the queue dies down slightly. The man serving me looks at me as though I'm a Martian.

'I'm sorry?' he asks.

'I want some juice from erotic fruit,' I continue. The queue falls silent. I point to the menu above the counter and as I see EXOTIC fruit I suddenly want to vanish without trace.

Quick as a flash I try to fake a Polish accent, 'Sorry my English not good.'

I get these two words mixed up, a but like accept and except.

Am I the only one? Anyone else with any amusing mix ups over words?

You should have heard me trying to learn to speak Italian. *eye roll* Apparently, the word that I thought meant 'thin spaghetti' was actually 'Vomit'. My Italian instructor laughed his head off.

Some days.. English is a 4th language for me..even though it is my native tongue so to speak.

I get strange compliments from foreigners in my store often that are like that...
I had one gentleman thank me and instead of telling me to "have a good one" which is the common nicety for any time of the day out here, he told me to "take a good one for myself". Which, of course, is the cleaned up version of go take a shit for yourself. I laughed my ass off.

I also had a friend taking spanish classes who was giving an oral presentation and asked me to help. His topic was that he was on a date and was takign her to dinner at a new restaurant.
Somehow, he thought that it was appropriate to comment on spilling something on his shirt, and he excalimed "Yo embarazzo!" At which point I nearly fell off the couch... that means I am pregnant! not I am embarassed!

So, yeah, you arent alone.
