Do people think it is a good idea to make a profile in a combination of colors that people can't read (say, black and dark blue?)

Is it just the mystery of it all?

That would be my guess.  I don't often read other kink sites because of their black background.  Makes my eyes tired.

I figure that they don't really want me to read their profiles, so I just move on.  Next!!!

It does stand out.  I also don't mind the black background site.  Haven't been to the purple one, though.

Borrowing from heraldy, never put a metal on a metal or a color on a color.  Metals are silver (or white) and gold (or yellow).  Colors are red, blue, green, black and purple.  If the background is a color, then the foreground or lettering should be bold (my problem with the site with the black background is the lettering is too small and thin).

Modern street and highway signs follow these rules.  That's why stop signs are metal on color (white on red), traffic signs are color on metal (black on yellow), speed limit signs are color on metal (black on white), and place signs are often metal on color (white on green) although there are variations.

Blue on Black is color on color.  There is not enough contrast for good visibility.

I think some people do it to see if anyone wants to actually put the effort into reading what they have to say.
Same as those who use a tiny little font.

Never type blue and green with nothing inbetween.

Yes I'm colour co-ordinating with my face. I read somewhere that it makes my profile look more professional.

the only place where blue on black is appropriate is in the bruises left from a good spanking
