Not my words, but one of my deepest concerns, a young, inexperienced  Obama will be "tested" the way JFK was tested during the Cuban missile crisis. The soviets felt that he generated weakness in his comments and jumped on an opportunity to spank the new President.  Others, with significant global political experience have expressed the same possibilities those of us on the other side of the aisle have feared, according to John Broder of the New York Times.

                   http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/bidens-crisis-remarks-reverberate/

“Mark my words,” Mr. Biden warned at the Seattle fund-raiser, according to reports from network producers traveling with him, “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy".

Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling knowing who might be picking up the phone at 3:00 A.M. Hillary was right but did not get her message out until too late in the game.

Cory, I am not sure what your intent is, but I must be honest. After everything I have seen, I really prefer it to be Obama picking up that phone. Not a hot headed old man that is long past his prime.

Anything can happen Cory (and usually does) - but I have no doubt whatsoever that he will handle it with that calm, assured maturity and dignity with which he seems pre-loaded, and steer the ship away from whatever dangers present themselves. The cowboy diplomacy of the last 8 years has gotten the western world into far more problems than such an alternative approach might have done.

It might be something to do with the Russians maybe they'll want to test US opinion on if building that missile shield is still a good idea? We all know that is one of their biggest gripes at the moment along with the land grab going on in the north.

Of course if we had all trusted one another like we did before 2000 then we wouldn't be at this point now would we? The way other nations get treated leaves a legacy that continues on after the administration changes.

Russian relations as bad as the cold war: check

Im sure forces are deconstructing the personality of each potential leader inside out.

Im sure the lobbiests are doing the same.

Who has done more damage in the past 10 years?   the foreigners, or ourselves?

LaTigresse: It is as clear as clear can be what Cory's intent was, at least to those of us who can see.  Cory was plainly and simply pointing out that, yesterday, Obama's own choice for V-P gave Americans the best reason to vote for McCain-Palin.  Note that not only did Biden say that Obama would be tested within six-months but, if not moreover, that Obama's supporters must support his first response to the test even though they won't understand it -- in essence, Biden himself believes Obama's supporters are ignorant, naive, stupid, etc., etc.

Well, Obama has already shown that he's more level headed than McCain during the recent economic crisis. Obama DIDN'T "suspend his campaign", nor did he call for the debates to be cancelled because he couldn't multi-task. Obama DID work with the folks from the other party, and DIDN'T impose himself with the steering comittiees trying to write the rescue package, gumming up the works for a week and a half, and allowing other pols to insert about an extra $150 billion in pork on the existing solution.

So, believe what you want, cory. But recent history has shown that Obama's a better, more level headed leader than McCain has shown himself to be.

I have no doubt Obama can put the hammer down if need be. He just wants to make sure there's a "need" first. If other world leaders interpret that as weakness, well.... that's their mistake. I don't think we should vote so as not to embarass other world leaders. Don't you?

ya know- Obama is good at walking the mine field of female opponents.

On the international stage, I am comfortable with him.   The worst mistakes are when we disregard to outgoing administrations run down.

I view his race to be helpful on this.  Granted he does not have alot of experience.   I dont think  we are doomed if he wins.  But nor do I think as hillary said the sky will open up.

not every crises is the crises we plan for. in fact it likely is one we dont foresee.

Nope..that's all Joe Biden had...and he has been successful in taking Obama's cure for the economy off the front page, and put big mouth Joe back on the boob tube at the center of things....well named in his regard.    yawn?  sleep tight and pleasant dreams....Gosh, hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare for you!

And that would be your final choice than?  "Old men have been called outcasts, past their prime, dangerous, since before poor old Aristotle...Fortunately, McCain is not going to drink the koolaide.

As to my intent...it was to show that even Joe Biden, Obama's choice to be his foreign relations expert on the ticket, sees the risk to our country in the selection of an immature, naieve President Obama.  The same way the Soviets thought of JFK.  To parahrase  another "old man", "I remember JFK, I remember his strength of character forged and tempered into steel during WW2, and, believe me, Obama is no JFK...and Biden, is no advisor like Robert Kennedy.  Biden has never seen a war as Senator since he was 29 years old that he would not run from..the man has never been right, but you will obviously correct me...which I would appreciate.

If he is elected than it means that the MAJORITY of the people(electoral college not withstanding) trust his judgment better that that of his opponent. If the phone rings Obama will answer it and face the issue. JFK faced the Russians and the missles were moved. An inexperienced, young President made the correct move in what was considered the most dangerous of incidents in the cold war. Not a bad thing to say about a young inexperienced President. Oh forgot to mention, a young, inexperienced
Democrat President.

Forgive me, but I really don't understand why it is America that always has to aplogize. Germans good, americans bad, French good, americans bad, UK good, Americans bad, and now Russia good, Americans bad!  Bad enough Kerry was upset because the French did not like us, and that did not work for him,...but now people blame the USA for the ex-KBG led government of Russia for the growing stress between our two countries. What are you saying, that "Mother Russia" is a virgin, pure as the snow on the Alaskan thundra.  Trust each other the way we did before 2000?  Yep, we trusted (we=Bill Clinton) the North Koreans in a deal brokered Marilyn Albright, and they built a nuclear weapon, we lulled into a false comfort zone by a strong economy in the 1990's, stimualted by the growth of technology and the internet (read: internet invented by Al Gore), while terror cells were training, taking flying lessons, and plotting their horrendous attack that killed over 3,000 people.  The United States has a history of trusting, and being screwed every time.

Truth is, countries link up with countries that serve their own special interests. As the Russian Bear continues to snarl, I think you will see more Europeans looking west and kissing the butt of Uncle Sam the way they always do when they smell trouble coming their way.  In the interim, the real long term  threat to the USA at the moment is not Russia but China..and that's another topic.

i think to say Biden called Obama a "risk" rather than what he actually said is unfair.
But they say "life isn't fair"...so no feathers ruffled.
