http://environment.uk.msn.com/news/headlines/article.aspx?cp-documentid=10272733 This somewhat irritated me today, seeing this on the local news, like what right had these people to block the lawful access of the public to a fantastic enviromentally friendly and educational project that is the Eden project ; http://www.edenproject.com/ Their complaint was that they were not consulted about the plan, and it would be a blot on the landscape. I don't know whether you have noticed, but in the first link, the local enviroment can be seen in the background, for it is all man made hills of quarry waste, grey and ugly. How can a wind turbine, by it's very nature be a blot on the landscape ? Also, I don't live there, or near there, but I knew about the plan, anyone who has visited Eden recently and has had their eyes open to other things than just the pretty flowers would have seen the plans. In fact a survey is being conducted there, in the Core building, a new building constructed on a fibbonaci spiral, a survey asking people if the project should power itself. The results as I saw them, were nigh on one hundred percent for the plan. Me, I welcome wind turbines, the more the better. They are not the ultimate answer to power generation, but they are good for small installations such as the Eden project, and their aim is for this turbine to power their operation in total, as an example of renewable energy. One thing I have noticed about people, though they welcome energy saving ideas and alternative power production, they are when it is to happen near them, a case of Not In My Back Yard occurs and they are all against the ideas, despite the good sense. Is NIMBYism just a thing that happens in the UK or does it happen in other contries too ?
