I find it interesting that so many people boycott Wal-Mart due to their practices with their workers.  But I never see news stories about the other large national chain retailers who have the same or similar practices.  Do you all do research on the others before you shop at them??  Just curious.  I'm not a huge fan of WalMart, but when I was driving a semi all over the country, that was the only place I could park my truck & go shopping & even spend the night.  Had it not been for that availability, I would never have had fresh food to eat at an affordable price.  And the people who work in them are some of the nicest, friendliest people I've met out there.  Why not spend some money there to insure that those folks have jobs???

Actually, I -do- boycott the other stores with similar business practices. I also still boycott Exxon (after having spent a week on the beaches off the Kenai Peninsula and into Prince William Sound cleaning up after that bloody mess!).

Most of the folks I know who took jobs at WalMart have regretted it. Many of them left small businesses in the area because of the promise of better benefits and better pay packages, only to discover that they were having to work more hours at lower pay, were forced to work without being on the clock, weren't eligible for benefits or were denied benefits when they tried to file claims, and were subjected to sexual and racial harrassment by managers...

WalMart's practices towards their employees aren't the only reasons to avoid WalMart. WalMart's business practices towards other businesses and their treatment of the environment and Native American sacred/burial grounds are appalling as well.

girlygurl -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/21/2008 3:37:31 PM)

weeeeee I bought the new CD and I love it!

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/21/2008 4:06:20 PM)

Well, crap!!  Now I gotta go out & get the dang thing too!  But there's no WalMart near me, so this may turn into a roadtrip.  When I heard about the tour, I tried to talk my niece's husband into going with me but he said he wouldn't due to whats-his-name's death.  I hate getting old & forgetting sh!t.  Oh, wait, that's the other thread.  [8D]

but still, they were about a buck, and you basically bought them for the one song. Most artists released at least one or two of them with each album.

On iTunes, if you like a single song, you download the song. It's about a buck (99 cents plus tax in the US), and there's -no- flip side... so they get a buck for -every- song.

Yeah, but what could you buy with a buck as a kid that still costs a dollar now? Nada!

The thing that always aggravated me were EP releases with 4 or 5 new songs, that cost almost as much as a full-length LP [:'(] I mean, I've seen punk EPs with five songs selling for $12.99, and with punk, that's not even 15 minutes! In those cases music-by-the-track is a huge improvement. And we won't even get into "import" realeases...

I tunes does nothing for me.   I like the old rock and concerts.

This is Darcy

I first saw the 'DC 21 years ago, in a huge arena with support by Dokken. I last saw them (for the second time) at the last gig they played to date, back in October 2003 at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon in London, where I was close enough to see Angus sweat!

Sadly both dates in London sold out in minutes and no tickets for me this time, but I have my happy memories, and we have Dan Reed and Counting Crows to look forward to before the year is done. [:D]

knees2you -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/22/2008 12:42:57 PM)

  "You've been Thunder Struct!"

The Original singer sang that He was going to Hell.

The new singer sang the opposite.

Brian Johnson could not replace the original
singer we know that.

But he can carry out a tune that makes AC/DC
a Household name.[sm=line.gif]

 What does ACDC mean to you?

Screaming whiskey voice, perfect housecleaning music;, or  put the car on cruise and crank up the volume,……did I mention they are the epitome of unadulterated lust?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/23/2008 12:35:14 AM)

Unadulterated lust, yes ma'am!!  I had a friend who had one of those vehicles that was essentially a speaker box.  We'd listen to AC/DC with that cranked up & the whole freakin neighborhood got to enjoy!  And I want that cd, MissSCD.  But no moolah + no WalMart = no Black Ice!!

azropedntied -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/23/2008 12:44:26 AM)

Yet another reason wallmart Blows .. they told the "exclusive" cd  people at press time to make it cheap and they did just for wallyworld , I had to return 3 defective cd 's  4th time was the charm , the manager at the store told me they make items cheaper  just for them keeping costs down , i said $11.88 cheaper ?..gee i can tell .. I waited  years for black ice , the only bad part was buying it at wallmart .Now that i have, it no need to return, wait scratch  return ,oops skipping return  ,one more time ok NOW i don't gotta go back .

The new disc Rocks !

MissSCD -> RE: ACDC"s Black Ice! (10/23/2008 7:40:40 PM)

The issue never was Walmart.  The issue is Black Ice Rocks.

If you don't want to buy it at Walmart, then don't.   I am enjoying mine, the bag, the wallet, the case of water, and the two new shirts for work that half the price we sell them for.

Regards, MissSCD
