A thought which occurred to me this morning. I'm just curious about what you all think.

Think about all the relationships you tried and which fell apart. the unlikely relationships which might have started, and any and every relationship you've gone through.

You cannot choose who you love.

I know one woman who choose who she loved, very industrious about it to the point of even scheduling marriage and babies etc. I didn't want to ask her what came after those two things because the realisation she was in love with societies dream relationship and there was nothing after that may have come as a depressing surprise for her.

I know for a fact some people choose who they love, me personally I never could. Certain traits about a person I love because maybe I’ve known similar people in my past and those relationships worked out well. Also though a person may come along who reminds me of no one I’ve ever known before and I can equally fall in love with them. At certain stages we are receptive to different things I suppose.

I disagree. I choose my friends. I choose everything in life except for my family. So I do agree on family. You cannot choose who you love there. Although some people can and hate their families..so they are making a choice.

If I want you for more than a friend. I have chosen you there as well. Something about you has caught my eye.

You cannot choose if someone is going to be an asshole sometime in life and hurt you. But you can choose to love them or not.
People change and we don't choose that when we get together with them.

As usual, very cool question.

I believe that we can choose who we love, unless we are put into constrained circumstances, limiting choice.

I wonder if we should, though? What if we allowed ourselves to love whomever we were moved to love?

Agreed whole heartily. More often than not, i do my best to keep and open-mind, and an open heart, allowing more of a "spiritual flow" of energies.
My belief system is that we are all connected, and contribute to a collective karma that is universal.
I may not agree nor feel that another actions, beliefs, values or morals coincide with mine, and in that case do my best to approach situations and people more from a "love" standpoint than not.
At the end of the day, i fall asleep knowing that i did the best i could in adding to that collective good karma.
I do have the choice to decide just how far to allow that "love" to be extended, if at all.

That's pretty much my thoughts in a nutshell.
I sometimes fall in love and can't understand it all!!
Can't justify it ... can't see any good coming from it ... so simply choose NOT to act on it.
( which doesn't mean by the way ... that I can stop loving or longing for the person )

What Oso said goes for me too. Sometimes love is not enough in the sense that it may not be in the best interest of one or both parties. I know some may question if it's truly love if that's the case. But, in my experience, it is possible to love people in different ways and on different levels.

let's see ...i did choose to fall in with my ex ...choose to marry and then divorce him too. Daddy did choose to love me and vice versa ...my pet and i choose to love each other.

so i guess you do choose the ones you love ...if not, why are they loving you and you them?

As love is an emotion, I believe you do not choose who you love. Certainly, you can modify your thoughts about it and control your behaviors around it, if you choose.
