LadyEllen -> Top Tory "solicited donation" from Russian oligarch (10/21/2008 11:53:12 AM)

Its business as usual apparently, in the reformed Tory Party in the UK. Expelled from government in 1997 after years of corruption that came to be known as Tory sleaze, the Party has been busy in more recent times in cleaning up its act.

Yet today an allegation has emerged that Tory Chancellor in waiting George Osborne, attempted to solicit a donation to the Party from a Russian oligarch. Accepting a donation from a foreign person is totally illegal under UK electoral law.

Mr Osborne, a houseguest of one of the Rothschilds on Corfu this summer together with New Labour political rival Peter Mandelson, (at that time EU Trade Minister), visited the Russian on his £80million ocean going yacht.

The story has emerged after Mr Rothschild took exception at the apparent leaking, (apparently by Mr Osborne) of private "off duty" conversations with Mr Mandelson, wherein Mandelson allegedly dismissed and denigrated British prime minister Gordon Brown - stories which emerged in the press, only weeks before returning to the UK as a Lord and minister in the government.

It looks like business as usual in the world of politics, the rich and the famous, whilst the rest of us wonder whether we'll be living in our home or a cardboard box this time next year.
