So, I've heard two ideas on this, Tenseing the muscels before the smack/paddle/flogger/what not hurts more or NOT tenseing the muscel hurts more....what do yall think?

i prefer the muscles as tensed as possible - providing He allows me, of course.

Bottom line, if you're getting hit hard enough, it hurts no matter what. My guess though is that it hurts a little bit less if you tense up, which is why I think it's instinctive to do so.

the way i've always heard it is that tensing will lessen the impact, it's human nature to 'bulk up' and absorb a hit anywhere on the body.

the other thing i've heard for so long is that figging was used to break people of the habit of tensing the muscles, and to train them to take a hit the way they're 'supposed' to.

Sounds like a catch 22 for the person taking the beating.  Don't clench and you absorb the full blow of the leather, clench and you absorb the burn of the ginger.

If I am relaxed when the blow lands, then I can usually endure more.  If I am tense when it lands, then I hurt more after the fact.  Being relaxed both mentally and physically is one of the keys for having great play for me.

I enjoy watching for "the clentch" and then waiting for "the unclentch" before delivering the blow. Twice the fun. It's all part of "tuning in" to the sub, being aware of "counting" and other anticipatory behaviors and then frustrating them to keep her off balance until she finally lets go and surrenders .

So, go ahead. Clentch, don't clentch...it's all part of the fun.

from the really nice welt-leaving memories, i remember getting there without flipping out by NOT tensing, i guess it's kind of like being in an accident and going limp?
i dunno
of course lately, the automatic response of tensing up has become oddly pronounced and i'm not sure how to make it go away again =p

For me, if I tense it seems to hurt more and my Lady will caress the hot spots with her nails until I relax.

And related to this...how many of us subs find our bottoms seemingly magically rising up or out teasing or wanting the next blow even though OMFG it hurts!?

I definitely find that it hurts more if I am tense than if I am relaxed. Sometimes I want it to hurt more though!

I tend to instinctively tense when he's in the same room with me!    But, seriously folks...When it really gets to hurting & he wants me to take more, I find that if I can go to the place where I relax & sort of lean into the pain, I can take lots more.  Until he spends waaaaaaay too much time on one spot!!  So I would say that tensing hurts more.
