Study: Media Coverage of McCain much more Negative than Obama

"While some will seize on these findings as evidence that the media are pro-Obama," the Washington Post editorializes, the study is quoted as interpreting the data to contain "a strong suggestion that winning in politics begets winning coverage". As an example, the study observes that "Obama's numbers are similar to what we saw for John Kerry four years ago."

Note: Kerry lost.

Democrat and columnist Orson Scott Card offers this view:

Media-bashing is part of the conservative catechism. (James Carville, I think.)

I am going to have to agree with kittensol on this one.  I have given up CNN and a lot of news.   I feel much better.

The media is selling their ratings.  Sensationalism is what they do to sell.

McCain is being much more negitive ,while Obama is being positive.

What did you expect?

The crap about Obama being a terrorist symp,Arab/Muslim/radical,a Communist, abortionist, etc. is dark and the opposite of positve.

And Obama is staying positive and speacking about issues.

I mean, what positive things can you say about silly Paris/elitist ads or "Joe the Fake" campaign opperitives planted to act like "Joe sixpack/plumber" ,asking prewriten questions?

They`re creative? In a Beavis and Butthead kinda way?

That`s kinda positive.....

the OP article states the contrary!

the media is no longer objective!  there was a time when government worried about the media digging, finding and reporting the truth.  now and from this day forward the news media is not any better than a lousy Tabloid Rag!

McCain is being much more negitive ,while Obama is being positive.

Quoting from the first link, McCain's coverage...

went into a free fall after he initially declared that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong." By the following week, more than half the stories about McCain were negative and only 11 percent positive, just as Obama's coverage was turning positive by a margin of more than 5 to 1.

Thus, contrary to what you claim, the study showed that it was when McCain stated that the fundamentals of the economy were sound that the media jumped all over him. The media know that Obama's numbers slip when panic about the economy is allowed to calm (

Conspiracy theory for the most part, bores me.

A discussion about "playing the ref"(the media) for advantage(like teams do in sports),would be a bit more interesting.

I also find bean counting/scoring biases, to be a dubious activity and far from objective.
