I just got home from the best comedy show I have seen, EVER. Carlos Mencia rocked my world tonight. I haven't laughed so hard for so long in years. Seriously, my cheeks, stomach, and hell, my back and neck hurt from laughing so hard. The show was supposed to last 2 hours. It started at 7:30 with 3 openers who were offstage by 9. Carlos walked on just after 9 and said goodnight at 11:40. I couldn't believe what time it was! I like him because he leaves no one out. He tells it as he sees it and he's opinionated as hell. He is wrong, he knows it, and he's proud of it. And, tonight was his birthday! Guess what his crew got him? A Sarah Palin blow up doll!!!!

I'm an amateur comic (hobby) and Mencia's name is mud with us, for stealing other comics' material. Dunno why he does that - he's rich enough to afford writers.

He is probably the last good comic around. You have to borrow material. If you were that good at delivering it he would not be able to steal it.

Um, Ray, no offense, but you don't know what you're talking about. You do NOT have to borrow material. When I think of a line, I will spemd ten to fifteen minutes working it, seeing how to present it best. Then I'll insert it into a routine at a bar or open mic, a low profile performance, and see how it does. I'll try two or three more timnes before I use it on a high profile gig. And 90+% of my material gets discarded. Material is nothing more than intellectual property. Stealing that from a comic is exactly like plagiarizing an author.

Although I still think Mencia is more racially motivated than Lopez. Seen them both many times.

i absolutely love carlos's routine about the handicapped kids. as the mom of 4 special kids, he really hit it on the head with some of the kids and we as parents have seen those moments when they get the better of us on something. then who's the "dee-dee-dee"? LOL! PM

I was listening to the comedy channel on xm radio and one comic says he writes all his jokes into a screenplay of a man doing those jokes. Which legally protects the jokes as part of a movie.

The really good comics have a different viewpoint on things and make you think. (How I miss you, Mitch Hedburg...) Mencia, joke-thieving aside, is way too preachy, has a huge ego, and is so freaking repetitive, he's like nails on a chalkboard to me. ~faith
