He forgot to mention the home that "some buddies" built, buddies with ties to contractors that worked on state contracts.

When you stop and think about it, very little of what they have is the result of their own hard work.  The assertion was intended as a joke, but not so much, yanno?

The day before, Chris Buckley was on the show, hocking a book he wrote in January that pretty much foretold the Palin story in a hypothetical setting involving the Supreme Court.  Like Rush Limbaugh's comments on Colin Powell, Jon asserted that Buckley being black was the only reason he was voting for Obama.  Nice little dig on Rush there.

I thought the chris buckley interview said the book story was about a woman judge on TV getting nominated for the supreme court. So I immediately thought they meant Judge Judy. Now THAT would be a good one. lolol I think that would be a riot. I have no idea why Sara Palin sprang into their minds..

If Powell were just voting for him because of his skin color, he could have endorsed him immediately after Obama got the nomination. Yeah, race is playing a part in the election this year... but mostly as a "fear card" being played by the GOP.

I think you are referring to this : An Alaskan Senator is charged with lying on Senate forms about receiving gifts. Senator Ted Stevens (Alaska, R) , 84, is charged with lying on Senate financial disclosure forms about $250,000 in home renovations and other gifts he received from his friend, millionaire oil contractor Bill Allen. Testimony revealed that employees of oil services company VECO Corp. transformed the senator's house from a small mountain A-frame into a handsome, two-story house with wraparound porches. Sentaor Stevens maintains that he paid every bill he was presented with and that he believed that all of the expenses were covered.

That is Not Sarah Palin, though there are questions about her charging the Alaskan people for taking her daughter on trips to events they were not invited to. She has charged Airfare, Hotels stays, food, and went back in august, pulled all of the expense reports and ammended them to state the children were performing official duties for the state. Then again..I would LOVE to have 150,000 to spend on clothing my Master, Myself and my Son and his family..frankly I can't think of how to spend that much..sigh. Guess I am not a fashionista and I would LOVE to check out Cindy McCains Credit Card purchases..http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11477.html.

It is potentially understandable that McCain has no idea how many houses/condo's he owns, after all his wife handles the purse strings as she also inherited or earned the majority of it, but I know how many houses Master owns (1) and his Mother owns (4 rentals and her own) and while it is no where near what the McCains have, one would think you would have a clue what your wife has purchased.

No. Im not thinking of Ted Stevens. But the Palin house saga does amount to "Ted Stevens, Part Deux".

Im talking about the house built for the Palins during her gubernatorial campaign that the family moved into about 1 month before she took office.  Yes, some of those contractor names that surfaced in the Stevens trial also worked on the Palin home as well, to the extent they put a right to lein on the property.

"A list of subcontractors on the Wasilla sports complex job, obtained by the Voice, includes many with Palin ties. One was Spenard Builders Supply, the state's leading supplier of wood, floor, roof, and other "pre-engineered components." In addition to being a sponsor of Todd Palin's snow-machine team that has earned tens of thousands for the Palin family, Spenard hired Sarah Palin to do a statewide television commercial in 2004. When the Palins began building a new family home off Lake Lucille in 2002—at the same time that Palin was running for governor and in her final months as mayor—Spenard supplied the materials, according to Antoine Bricks, who works in its Wasilla office. Spenard actually filed a notice "of its right to assert a lien" on the deed for the Palin property after contracting for labor and materials for the site. Spenard's name has popped up in the trial of Senator Stevens—it worked on the house that is at the center of the VECO scandal as well."

According to the State of Alaska website.... Spenard Builders Supply had a 'right to lien' the Palin property in 2001

Q. How does someone of modest working class roots afford a $550,000 house before becoming $$$ governor?

A. Living off of others.

Jon Stewart is right.
