Know yourself. You cannot possibly have your needs met until you understand what those needs are. Find a mentor. Everyone needs someone with experience that they can trust. Finding such a person can be difficult because most people put their own interests first. However, we all need people who can look at things from "outside" and give an unbiased, honest appraisal. In the mean time, ask lots of questions. Read the boards.

Things get saner the more real world you are. What I see in person at my local MaST meeting is generally pretty understandable. Things get weirder on collarme. Things get WAY WAY weirder when you go into online only places like SecondLife, chat rooms, etc. There is no BDSM role that justified being an asshole. Hello StarmanJr. Along with the usual pearls of wisdom you may find here just remember that it is supposed to be fun. A lot of people get into trouble when the fun goes out of the lifestyle because of the holy quest for uberness. Good luck, go slow and stay happy. RL.

I notice many newbies tend to romance about either submitting and dominating too much that they can't see what really going on too well, try to be able to see clearly what may happen with each situation in meeting someone. Also follow your instincts, if you feel something is wrong with the person and you can't push the feeling away, there most likely is something wrong;)

Not every one uses the term SSC nor believes in it, and not every one has to.
